Audi TT dashboard lights
I bought my audi tt 2009, but only now (Sept/Oct) I'm finding problems in the daytime with the dashboard lights, with them either dimming or going out completely. The garage told me this is quite normal, due to light conditions. I.e they will dim or go off if it gets darker to let me know to switch the lights on. Does this sound correct? Or could this be a potential future Audi TT dashboard failure? Thanks for any replies.

Initially sounds like a genius idea, but then most cars don't have the dashboard lights on during the day........
Is THIS the problem?
If what the garage say is infact true, it's probably to stop owners driving around at night with just the fancy LEDs on.
If It's getting dark, put your lights on.... SIMPLES
PS - do they also do this in snow of fog? because that really would be great!!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Saab dashboards light up during the day. And the as night time approaches the dash lights go off to make you put your lights on.0

This problem only happens in the daytime, and when they dim or go off, I cannot see anything like petrol guage, speedomter or any warning lights.0

My car just turns the lights on when it gets dark. It doesn't bother me with menial tasks like that.0

Dimming the dash lights to make you turn the headlights on? Sorry I don't get the point of it, if you stick a light sensor in the car, make it turn the headlights on and off as appropriate. Plus in the daytime you do not need the dash lights anyway?!0

It is pretty scary when there is only blackness coming out of the dashboard, not to be able to see your speed or any other information does sound very odd to me. I still think the garage is fobbing me off.0

If you haven't already, I'd join an Audi TT related forum. If it's happening to you the chances are that it will have happened to other owners too. They may have found a solution.0 -
OP, do the dashboard lights come on again when you turn on the outside lights?0

i have an audi tt 09 plate and dont have that problem when the lights are on the dashboard is a pale orange colour at night and just brighter in the daytime i can switch them on off and you can clearly see that the light is working
however i have had no end of problems with this bloody car
its at present in the audi garage as the seals on the hood wernt working properly and when it was parked up for three weeks when we were away on holiday in august the car was ruined by heavy rain and its has to have a new interior
not to mention the hood not working a few months ago and other small picky problems
anything that wrong with your car would be covered by the warranty but once its out of warranty i would be very wary i had an older style tt x plate a few years ago and had huge problems with the dashboard which meant a chip needed replacing and cost several hundred pounds to fix i had no petrol gage spedometer rev counter ect0 -

It's even more scary when you pull out to overtake some old dear only to be confronted by an Audi TT coming at you out of the darkness!!
If you can't see your dash TURN YOUR LIGHTS ON!!!!!!!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
