Is the post lady stealing my mail?

My post lady is a bit strange, she always very irregular usually hours late and very odd. Recently I've noticed I'm getting a lot less mail (I usually get alot of mail and parcels). Anyway I have ordered a few things and they haven't turned up (inexplicably). Since I'm usually in when the post arrives I have seen the post woman come to the door with a parcel and post letters through the door, get back into the van and put the parcel somewhere in her van without knocking. It is very odd because even if we aren't in usually parcels are put in the shed. Anyway this has happened numerous times and the parcels have never turned up. I don't know what to do because I can hardly ring up the post office, I'll sound like a mad women but some of these parcels have been important items. Does anyone have any ideas?

That's exactly what I'd do. You have seen suspicious activity by the postal worker, which although not evidence that she is indeed stealing your mail, does still require investigation. RM have processes in place to deal wirth this type of scenario.
If custardy comes along I'm sure he will clarify the procedure to report such a matter, but you could start with the main Royal Mail helpline.0 -
It does happen unfortunately - it happened to me a few years ago. I had a bag load of mail delivered one afternoon with a letter of explanation from Royal Mail.
Reminds me of a joke:
2 orphans, a brother and sister, are having an awful time at the orphanage one Christmas. The sister suggests they write a letter to Father Christmas asking for some money, £50 to be exact, so they can buy presents for their only friends. They write the long letter, fully illustrating their predicament, one night and post it the next day.
The people at Royal Mail open Santa's letter and on reading this sad story have a whip round at the sorting office.
They collected £40 and put it in an envelope and sent it back to the orphanage.
A few days after New Year, another letter written to Father Christmas appears in the sorting office, with the same handwriting as the sister.
All the workers crowd round and one of them reads it out loud:
"Dear Father Christmas. Many thanks for sending us the money so we could buy our friends presents this year. Unfortunately, when we opened the letter it was £10 short. My guess is those theiving b*stards at the Post Office took it"0 -
of course you should call and raise issues you have.
however one thing that drives me mad is this fascination with postal times
the days of setting your watch by the postie are gone.
staff have lapsing to do,you have park and loop duties and absorption
so a postie arriving at different times is not a reflection on performance
my favourite retort to " you're late/early today" would be "I didnt even know i had an appointment!"0 -
The term postman is perfectly acceptable for both male & female post delivery operatives. I dont know why people have this fascination of making a direct distinction when describing one as such. And this goes for other professions where 'man' is now changed to woman/lady.
USE MAN IT IS THE CORRECT TERM AND IS NOT USED TO DENOTE THE SEX OF THE PERSON."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

Still better than saying 'post person'0 -

If you see her with a parcel, why don't you open the door and say "Oh, is that for me, I've been expecting that" ?? Say you saw her coming & opened the door to save her knocking.
If she is taking things, she's less likely to do so with you standing in front of her. Or if she knows you are looking out for her.
But I would contact the post office too. Where were the things that have gone missing coming from? Have you tried contacting the sender & them trying to track the parcels?0 -

I think we can see where its going.. Though he questions were kind of answered first off in that she should contact the RM or see her when she comes next time.. Theres not much advice to improve on from that really."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0
