Paypal Micropayments

Hi
I have just been browsing the ebay forums and have come across this thread, http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?threadID=1100035020&tstart=0&mod=1160069903423
it seems that Paypal now have a different charging structure for low value sellers and it works out cheaper if your total amount going into paypal is below £9.50ish , the new charges work out higher if you take payments over this amount
From the quick read it appears you have to have a business account (not sure if you can get this with the seller account...the one that accepts card payment) and email them to get changed over to this as they dont appear to advertise it
link to paypal site http://www.paypal.com/IntegrationCenter/ic_micropayments.html
Couldnt see that this had been discussed here before so apologies if it has, I am going to investigate this a little more as most of my business ebay auctions end lower than £10 so I should save quite a bit, hope you save some money too

Hi Jim
Have you actually signed up for this as I don't seem to be getting anywhere?
I emailed the address twice but just get a standard response back saying I need to create a new account and then write to them from that account.
Well, I don't want to create a new account as I have several already, so would just need it converting and I'm going round in circles.0 -
i emailed them back and they sent a standard email back, i emailed again pointed out that that I only wanted one paypal account and only wanted it to accept micropayments and they emailed me to say that it had been changed, took 3 emails and about 6hours but is done ;-)
keep trying

Me too...I'll give it a go when I sober up.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Thanks Jim, I've emailed them back to see what they do!!
One question: if you accept payment over £12, is it still accepted but charged at a higher rate? Or is it refused?
Thanks0 -

I know....but I emailed them back saying that if I opened a new account it would be set to macropayments (the default setting) and that they would then change this to micropayments and asked that they changed the current paypal account to micropayments as I did not need to receive micro and macropayments and they kindly did this straight away ;-)0 -

Thanks
My understanding is that it will still accept payments of any amount (ie over £12) but the charges would be higher... that is why they suggest having 2 accounts one for micropayments (for low value payments) and one for higher payments
Just to note though that the £12 is misleading as was pointed out on the ebay chatroom that the charges work in your favour below £9.50ish, anything above and the normal charges are better, anything below the micropayments are better
hope that helps

After another email saying that I'd like THIS account setting up for micropayments, I've finally got an email back saying it has been done. I now await my first payment to see if it is working.0 -
I have had my first payment, for just under £3.50 and the fees charged were the Micropayments and worked out 10p cheaper than fees charged for the same amount last week :j :j  :j :j0
