Sainsbury's Energy

  • I have just realised about the EDF Energy/Scottish Power fiasco today when my wife asked if we were registered for nectar points. The following e-mail has just been sent to Sainsbury's Power via both Scottish Power and EDF Energy
I have just discovered that although I am a Sainsbury's Energy Customer I am not getting the full benefits of those that sign up with Sainsbury's Energy today (nectar points, online entry of meter readings, higher discounts). This is because I have the misfortune to have signed up with Sainsbury's Energy when they were run by Scottish Power. I do not even get some of the benefits of being a Scottish Power customer such as online entry of meter readings. The new Sainsbury's Energy under EDF energy does seem to offer more benefits than its Scottish Power equivalent.

I am quite frankly disgusted with this state of affairs. I would have thought that I was either a customer of Sainsbury's Energy or I wasn't, not to have to check which particular sub-branding (Scottish Power or EDF Energy) I had. It also seems slightly ridiculous that I have to switch suppliers in order to become a true Sainsbury's Energy customer

I will post back with any information I get
  • Scottish Power Customer Services have e-mailed me and told me:-
I re-iterate that you are receiving all the benefits you agreed to, and that are available to you, when signing up with Scottish Power/Sainsbury in 2003 and that you can access your account on line to input your meter readings as this service is available to all customers on the Scottish Power database regardless of their affiliation.

I went on to their web site and got a message saying this facility wasn't available to Sainsbury's Energy customer. I contacted their help desk as listed on the site and was told facility wasn't available. They got the Customer Services rep to ring me. From this it transpired that:-

    1. She thought the facility was available and so did her manager
    2. They used to have a section that dealt with Sainsbury's Energy but do not any longer
    3. If it was a Scottish Power question she could have answered it with no problem but did not know a lot about Sainsbury's Energy
    4. Sainsbury's Energy accounts are managed differently to Scottish Power
    5. It would take about 6 wks to transfer from Sainsbury's Energy/Scottish Power to Sainsbury's Energy/EDF Energy but transferring to Scottish Power could have been done there and then
    6. She was not interested in finding out what extra benefits I was talking about that I did not get with Scottish Power but would with EDF Energy (she said she knew nothing about the benefits, I said she could find out from the web site, she said not interested)

From this it does very much seem that Sainsbury's Energy customers with Scottish Power are out in the cold, and not even get the same level of customer service that Scottish Power get.

I have had no reply yet from EDF Energy
