Sainsbury's Energy

Does anyone know what is happening at Sainsbury's Energy?

I swapped to Sainsbury's Energy from Powergen in the spring after being stopped by a rep instore, who told me that I would save £'s by swapping and earn Nectar points. I swapped, even though I had to find nearly £100 to pay the Powergen balance, which had built up because they kept estimating the bills even though I was ringing the readings through!

I went online to register my Nectar card to earn points tonight, after I realised that they weren't adding points. The site wouldn't take my account number from my bill so I rang customer services to ask why. They told me that I wasn't a customer of Sainsbury's Energy reallly, I was with Scottish Power so wasn't eligible for points. Apparently EDF have taken over supplying Sainsbury's new customers but existing customers are staying with Scottish Power. I have had no communication from Sainsbury's about this and my bills still have Sainsbury's Energy on the top? This is starting to sound very dodgy. I have emailed them from the site to ask the questions and it said EDF would get back to me???? Anyone else had this experience or know anything?

Thanks.

Says on there website that the points apply through EDF Energy -

All points offers are subject to EDF Energy collection rules, and limitations, qualifications and restrictions apply.

Have you tried contacting them via there website:

  • Yes, I did email them through the website last week, but they are ignoring me. I feel a bit let down by Sainsbury's really, not because the points amount to much, but because they used the nectar points as a lure to get me to change. I am wondering why I am a customer of Scottish Power, yet get my bills from Sainsbury's. I wonder if I should be a direct Scottish Power customer and not give my money to a middle man? Just thought someone on here would know why it had all changed in such a short time. Thanks anyway for replying Gal.

Not sure - Although I do understand what your saying - Sainsburys definately used to deal with Scottish power - However the only reason I would see for a possible change is that EDF are offering them a better incentive. Maybe would be a better time to look for a new supplier and leave sainsburys behind. Like you say its not the points thats the issue but the way you have been treated.
  • yup I work for edf inbound customer sevices we recently took over sainsburys energy all existing customers are with spower until or unless they reg with ourselves when i return to work on friday ill find out the deals or sainsbury energy with ourselves n ill post it for u lot :):) n as far as i know sainsburys get commision from ppl signing up through them
    After the game,
the king and the pawn go into the same box

  • Ok - I phoned both EDF and Scottish Power today to find out what is happening. Sainsbury's Energy have ended their association with S Power and from 1 Sept use EDF. They have abandoned their old customers with Scottish Power but will still be billing us. We can no longer get any benefits from being wtih Sainsbury's and they won't talk to 'old' Scottish Power customers. The guy in Scottish Power customer relations said that Sainsbury's have ended all relations with them, but they bill Sainsbury's for my power and I pay Sainsbury's. Now I need to find out if I pay a premium for being billed by them and if it would be advantageous for me to get my power direct from a supplier. What a palavar. I remember the words of the girl who stopped me in May in my local Sainsbury's ..........'we will guarantee to save you money and you will benefit from all the Sainsbury's usual perks'! Within weeks I had a letter telling me that they were increasing their prices which turned out to be the same as I was paying with Powergen!! and now they just abandon people because they have a better deal with EDF for new customers. I am astounded that they have been allowed to do this and not inform existing customers. We live and learn.....don't sign up in store folks. It's all bull **it!

    It's simple Amanda Midlands
You were sold Sainsbury's energy (which was at the time through Scottish Power)

Scottish Power shortly after you joined put up the price (for the 3rd time this year like most suppliers) But most likelly still would be saving you money compared to powergen who also put up their price end August.

Sainsbury's at the end of August stopped selling energy contracts powered by Scottish Power,
Then as of September are now selling EDF Under the Sainsbury's brand.

As far as I am aware you are and will still be billed by Scottish power,
You can continue to be billed by Scottish power if you wish,
or you can apply to be billed on the new Sainsbury's deal by Edf,

Only Customers supplied by EDF collect the nectar rewards.
  • Thank you Goodybags. The nectar points were not the point of my anger though, it was the fact that Sainsbury's aren't really anything to do with supplying the energy.............etc.etc.......I just want to make sure I am getting the best price and I'm not sure if it is costing me more to be billed through Sainsbury's. I will talk to Scottish Power again to check.

I suppose, Amanda, this could happen with other agents like EBICO and Virgin. If the agents can get a better commission rate from another supplier.!!!
A lot to be said for dealing direct.
  • Perhaps you could go to the tesco website and join powergen again and get the 2000 tesco points bonus for joining if they still do that offer?
Was there a time tie in? Glad I didn't swap I use the tesco points i get from powergen on deals.
