I'll bore people about John Lewis any time. No company's perfect, but if they were all like JL we'd live in a far better shopping world. Great company.0

If you think the cheaper place offers an extra 4 years guarantee for less than the difference of £90.00 then go for it.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

I've had a reply yesterday off them (After 4 days) saying they wouldn't match the price of an identical laptop in Argos because it only had a 12 month guarantee.(theirs is 2 year)
And also it was £5.95 delivery from Argos even though I would be collecting it in person!
In the end we called in their shop, were told they didn't have it in stock so ordered it for me on their computer which was the exact same price as Argos-unbelievable (still £20 dearer on their website though??????)0 -

Here's where it gets a bit peculiar:
The stores will match a competitor's shop locally, so if currys in newcastle just down the road from a newcastle JL branch is selling a laptop at £500 and is in stock and marked at that price, then that is the price that JL will match.
If same competitor has a website and you try to get them to match the web price, as websites have far less overheads than a shop it's much easier to sell cheaper, so to avoid !!!!ing money away, JL factors in the cost of additional services to make it an actual like for like comparison.
For instance, Richer sounds often sells a tv cheaper but with a 1 year guarantee, so if you want JL to match their website, then they'll be looking at the price Richer Sounds charges for the tv + a five year guarantee.
The JL site, being that it's a national thing sells products at their RRP basically and will only change the prices if a national competitor is doing a country-wide sale. The shops match locally, meaning that they are usually cheaper than the website (but never more expensive).
I expect that the shop you were in was matching the LOCAL price of the laptop as seen in argos, whereas the website refused because you were reporting the price of the laptop on the argos site.0 -
Am trying to buy Panasonic TV, John Lewis are £90 dearer than a local showroom. Item in stock, same guarantee etc to meet their stipulated terms and conditions . Filled in price match form on their website TWICE, no response.
Is their "never under sold " guarantee a con ?
Never knowingly undersold.0 -

Update-just had another e-mail saying they can't match the price because they have none in stock on their website.
Just checked they've got 6!!!!!!0 -
price matching is like for like including the 5 year warranty on tv's. for this reason most of the times richersounds are not pricematched.
JL are good but they should not claim to pricematch including 5 year warranty as they also claim to give it free.
so in essence the warranty is not free but its cost is included in the price. which of course means they are offering a cheap warranty. overall good pricing but they should cut out the bol**k claims0
