John Lewis - hopeless web presence

Options
Am trying to buy Panasonic TV, John Lewis are £90 dearer than a local showroom. Item in stock, same guarantee etc to meet their stipulated terms and conditions . Filled in price match form on their website TWICE, no response.

Is their "never under sold " guarantee a con ?

If they can't be bothered to respond, why not buy from the place you saw it at £90 less? Everybody raves about JL but I have found their website customer service very poor indeed.

Why not support your local shop and buy it £90 cheaper? Perhaps they'll even throw in something else for free?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

How long did you wait? It usually takes about a week in a store for the undersale to be checked and then reported back to the customer.

Online, they'll need to email the nearest store, then get that store to go out and have a look.

If you DON'T have a local store (within 8 miles I think is the radius) of the competitor, it won't be matched, and if you do, it'll be matched in that store. It'll only go down online if said store has a national presence.

The only thing you need to consider with the independants is if they go bust, you're not going to be out of luck with the warranty, as happened with these chaps:

But yeah, if you can't get the price matched, then go elsewhere. But do be patient, they don't have somebody sitting there going, "Gee, this random person says it's cheaper by £90. Here's £90 for your trouble." They do physically go out and check that people aren't misinformed, or just lying (which people frequently are).

And if you DO have a store nearby, give them a ring and see if they've already matched the price.

    It is genuine and correct.
JL would be mortified to read your post.

PLEASE ring them now on 08456 049 049 and refer them to the Thread.
Say exactly what has happened, now with salt in wound of having to make a call for which you are being charged.

I have found them faultless over any such matters several times in the last couple of years and my purchases are small, with budget to match.

  • I bought a flat screen TV from them and took in details of how much Richer Sounds were selling it for. Initially I paid the price JL were asking but completed the price match form in-store. They checked the details and we got refunded the difference within the week. Perhaps you need to actually buy it first and then claim the difference? (reason for buying from JL is that they had a better warrenty)

I have used their price match gaurantee before and it had worked. Try calling up your local store and doing it over the phone. I got my letter through the post saying they would honor the cheaper price less than a week later. They also changed the price in store to reflect the cheaper price.

Edit. I didn't purchase the product beforehand. I wanted to ensure they would price match before I made the purchase

One thing to consider. 5 year guarentee. I bought a panasonic 42" plasma from john lewis in Nov 2007, it developed a fault which I called JL up about. The next week the tv was picked up by the repairer and a loan tv left, got a call from JL on Sun this week to say it couldn't be repaired and a replacement was delivered today. updated model from the 1 i had. very pleased with the service from john lewis:T
