I rang Sky to get standard Sky+ without multi room and they told me is was £99 plus £60 installation.

If this is the case then I'll be checking ebay as macman has already suggested.

  • Doesn't always work, but you could try phoning them and saying "my sky box is no longer working, I'm thinking about cancelling and going to Virgin," just to see if they offer anything to keep you.

OK... last night signed up to Sky+ which is being fitted on 17th October BUT signed up to multi-room at an extra cost of £10 a month! So now I've got 10 days to either try to get my box to work or find another one.

I could have gone for just swapping the box but that would have been an extra £99, which I don't have spare to pay out right now (as I had to pay the £60 installation charge). I hope I've done the right thing as I don't know what the Sky guy will say/do if my box still won't work or I haven't got a replacement. The multi-room option is going to cost me £10 a month extra but it will give me the option to have the box in the bedroom in the future.

I'm still trying all the ideas I have found when I googled 'Sky box stuck on standby' but no luck as yet. In the meantime I have put an ad on Freegle... you never know, someone might have a box they are no longer using stored in their loft!

Update: WOW!! I've just tried 'the hairdryer trick' and it's back working!! Thank goodness for Google and the internet!
