Does the October Howdens sale actually exist?!

Evening all!
Ive just bought a one bed flat which I will shortly be renovating. It needs everything doing and im planning on ordering the kitchen and doors from Howdens.
Ive heard rumours that during October Howdens give out a fairly substancial discount on top of their normal trade discounts. Is this right?
The kitchen im after comes in at £2600 which my carpenters usual discount added. Can I expect to get much more off this? My carpenter doesn't seem to know anything about an october sale!
Any info would be gratefully received!

£2600 is expensive for Howdens for what I'm guessing is a modest kitchen. What range was it? Did he give you the estimate - what sort of %s are they taking off?
The October sale does exist. As usual there is never set discount so it's fight for what you can get but someone had reported 80% discount on cabinets the other day - it does depend on the range as well.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I am looking at the Estimate sent to my builder before the 'sale' and the units have a discount of 80%, the pelmets etc 85%, appliances 60% (although I'm going elsewhere for these), and other bits and bobs 40 - 55%.
I haven't seen the new Estimate, but because I have only just confirmed delivery, the new overall price given to me on the phone, is lower.
The kitchen designer, who had made an initial visit and suffered a few conversations with an indecisive customer, said that I would get 'the best price' because 'XXXX (my builder) spends a lot of money with them'.
XXXX doesn't take a cut on this as far as I can see.0 -

That ties in with the sort of thing I see. Other bits and bobs are always less of a discount than the units, pelmet and plinths etc more.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Thankyou for the replies, its the saponetta white which is a fairly basic kitchen. Its a 12x6 ft L shape kitchen with a built in single oven, hob, extractor and comes with the sink.
Im not sure what the discount is but will check with the carpenter, he says that he orders lots from Howdens so I would have thought he'd have a fairly good discount as standard.0 -
I chose a kitchen in the Saponnetta range about a month ago. it came to approx £2500 including an oven, hob and sink. This was the price after my friend's trader discount. Called back at the start of October and they told me they would knock VAT off (i.e. a further 17.5% discount) if I booked a delivery date within a week. Said no, showed them a competitor quote and they price matched down to £1500. It was suggested to me that you can book a delivery date and then back out nearer the delivery date, they will apparently knock money off to keep your order.Evening all!

We've just had an initial quote...pretty basic, in the Burford range which I was told by the designer wasn't the cheapest, but not top end either. Our discounts range from 49.93% (worktop edging) to 91.15% (end panels). Units are all at around 70% at the moment. The quote came in at just over £3k, which seemed very expensive for a small kitchen, one drawer unit and the rest hi-line. At the moment, it's actually coming in cheaper to buy from B&Q or Homebase and the units look a lot nicer design
Edited to add: this is after the October sale discount has been applied, apparently!0 -

wow, £1500?! So if I get a cheapie quote from homebase Howdens should match it? Im guessing your friend had to approach them to haggle?
The quote includes howdens own brand oven/hob....am tempted to change it to something with a name to it. It really is a basic kitchen though, not many units to it as im having a cut out for a dishwasher/fridge/freezer. I'd really like to get the lot for £2000 tops.
Thanks again for all the replies!0 -
Get a hold of the estimate and start doing the negoitating yourself.
£1600 is too much for a Saponetta. It's not an expensive range at all and if it's a small kitchen then it just far too much. And don't buy the Lamona appliances - hard to get parts for and you will find something you like for less money. If it's cheap and cheerful you are after then I like the packs that B&Q do for £349 for an oven and hob - brands like Hotpoint, Whirlpool etc. go and buy them on one of the 20% off weekends and you'll struggle to fine anything decent for less.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

You really think I could knock £1000 off? Ill head down to Howdens with my quote tomorrow and see if they'll let me haggle with them! Im not at all keen on Lamona, I can get a Beko oven and ceramic hob from ebay for £260 and I find Beko to be pretty good!
Thankyou for all your help :T0 -

Lamona is made by BekoEat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
