You are free to see whomever you like at whatever point for treatment, however a decent dentist would not offer to only treat one part of the mouth if there were more urgent issues elsewhere that needed to be addressed.
For example, if you went to Harley St for veneers on your front teeth, whilst you had missing back teeth and your bite was mot stable, this should be rectified before an elective work such as cosmetics are carried out as there would be an increase risk of premature failure of the veneers which would not be a good thing.Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are usually right.0 -
I know its just academic, but I think you will find that Harley Street wouldnt offer the best treatments anyway
Oh and good luck for tomorrow!0 -
The very best way to get decent dental work on an ongoing, long term basis (Which will ultimately be best value for money) is to find a dentist you trust, and stick with them.
If you ask for something outside their skill and experience, they will refer you to a specialist that they know and trust.
Chopping and changing all the time will get you so many different opinions that your head will spin.
There is rarely only one correct way of dealing with a particular mouth of a particular patient. If you see many dentists, you will become very conused and distrustful, but it doesn't mean that any one of them was 'right' or 'wrong'.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Wanted to agree with Toothsmith. Twice in recent years my dentist has told me that the treatment plan he is recommending is not the one he would be advising if he was looking at my mouth for the first time. Taking the history of my teeth into account has actually changed the treatment.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. well i went to my private dentist today and he said he saw a very faint shadow running alongside one of my roots,(he showed me and it was just a very faint line next to the root) but the tip of the roots is ok, he doesnt know what it is,said it could be the post has moved, or could be one of my roots is moving? so said specialist£600 and that might fail or cantelever bridge,£900 or implant£2000
what i want to know is if i leave this, and have no problems will it do damage? or should i opt for implant straight away
i am antis because i poked my gum with a dirty needle, if antis clear my gum up, and i have no further problem should i just wait until i have a problem, original problem was me poking at a lump on my gum
im really just as confused as i was and dont think the dentist was too sure either, he didnt seem to think i had an abscess, he said i had made my gum sore from poking it.
if i had to choose an option, other than leaving it be i would opt for implant,0 -
I cant advise you on any of that mrs a, but how did you feel about the dentist himself and the surgery? Did you feel happier than in your NHS one?
Im thinking of at least one implant - at £1750.0 -

well he quoted me £2700 for one implant, where if i go to my usual surgery to the best private man it would be £2000
the dentist seemed ok but still seemed a bit confused to me.( i suppose dentistry is not an exact science) i just need to make a decision i think, and i will opt for an implant for this one tooth should it be removed
wow £1750 for implant thats fab price i would go for that if i was you.0 -
Well I am really chuffed with myself. I was told by two different dentists four months ago that my root canal treatment had become infected and there was still some stuff left in my tooth and I needed to see a specialist dentist to sort it all out and it would cost me £750.00. I was in an awful lot of pain and an abcess had also formed.
Well after nearly collapsing at being told I would have to pay £750 immediately to fix the problem, instead I used a Hydrogen Peroxide mouthwash as recommended by a natural health article and five days later all my pain had gone and I went back to the dentist to be told my infection had cleared up and there was no need for me to go and see a specialist anymore!
I have not had a problem since. All in all it cost me 88p instead of £750.00. I don't recommend this for everyone but it certainly worked for me!0 -

The mouthwash I bought at the pharmacy dept in Morrison's, although i am sure any chemist will sell it anywhere as it doesn't appear to be anything special. I have seen it in the pharmacy at Tesco as well. I just asked the pharmacy assistant for a bottle of Hydrogen Peroxide mouthwash and she immediately knew what I was on about. On the bottle it says 'Hydrogen Peroxide Solution 9% 30 vols For use as a mild skin disinfectant, mouthwash or gargle'. The label has the name Care + on it. It costs 88p.
It is absolutely fab as a mouthwash and excellent for curing bad breath as well.
I had two lots of x rays done by two different dentists and both x rays showed the abscess and both dentists said they couldn't treat me and that I definitely needed to see a specialist dentist. I feel a lot more in control of my own dental care now. I sincerely hope it works for you as well.0
