I was surprised by the speed it was done, under half hour, when I'd read other accounts that took over an hour.

Hmmm... find it hard to believe a RT can be done in 30mins after what I went though - 90 mins+... was it a molar or one of your inscisors?

well i bit the bullet and on a recommendation by my best friend today have booked an appointment with a different practice to see a private dentist,

i felt that if i went to the private man at my own dentist he would only go off what his nhs colleague said, cos lets face it if he could do the work privately when the nhs dentist said they couldn't or wouldn't it would only prove that nhs patients are being treated different, and in my view even if the outcome was the same I'm sure i wont be treated as badly as i was on Wednesday

its true whats said on here, if you want to keep your teeth go private

personally i fear so much now for my children's care within this nhs practice that going private will be worth every penny

If after my private consultation i find out what i suspect, (total lack of care) i will write an open letter to Gordon brown via the tabloids.

ps does anyone know what could be wrong if you have a rough part on your gum that feels like it is burning and aching, i told dentist this and she said she saw nothing wrong with that part of my gum, but today the pain quite bad
  • The first part of my root canal treatment was done in 20 mins 12 days ago and I am STILL in agony.

I nearly crashed my car today as I've had no sleep to speak of for 2 weeks. My husband says I'm really grumpy .I had a short break last weekend totally ruined. I went back to my dentist on wednesday and asked him to do something ANYTHING to stop this intractable pain. He looked in my mouth poked the large lump at the base of my gum and sent me away for another week with a new box of erythromycin and some co codamol.

I am sat here now seriously thinking how can I get this tooth out of my head . I have had root canals before i have had abcesses before I've had a ceasarian section where they cut me open before the anaesthetic had worked and this beats it all.
Sorry for pointless post not really thinking at all let alone straight.

crazy thats awful, you shouldnt feel this ill - ring the dentist or any dentist and see someone tomorrow as an emergency. Let us know how you get on, wont you. xx

BF109, if you tap it from the side does it hurt a lot? Not that Im the dentist on here, but it may well be that the filling is too high fingers crossed. I was in a lot of pain with one of my crowns and decided an abscess must be under it. Rang dentist, went straight in and he xrayed said def no an abcess and then ground a tiny bit off the back of the new crown. I thought this wont make a blind bit of difference - but the pain went almost immediately.

    Good luck

I've been to dentist today as part of my tooth & filling fell out yesterday (2nd molar from back on the bottom).

Dentist says not enough of tooth left to fill and I need a crown. She has explained it all to me, apparently root is healthy, no infection. So booked in mid-Nov for 1st 45 min appt. Have got temp filling till then.

    Absolutely terrified!

Spoke to a friend later, who was told she needed a crown - she opted to have it removed instead.

Now I'm in a right state and dont' know what to do. The cost isn't really a factor, as I currently have maternity exemption (until Jan).

Anyone have any advice/experience on this?

My goodness, there is nothing for you to worry about at all! Ive got many crowns now - one session for several of them lasted 3 hours  - doesnt hurt except for having your mouth open so long and in my case, dying for a wee :) Certainly not as awful as having an extraction. Honestly, you will be back on here saying you cant imagine why you were worried.

Thanks Hethmar - I do feel a wee bit silly being so terrified. I am the proud mother of 3 children - 2 of whom arrived without any pain relief, so why should I be reduced to tears by the thought of the dentist? :o

Im the same, I hyper ventilated so much when I did have an extraction that they had to lay me down! Since I found my current dentist Ive felt much happier, he is more like a friend than the scarey man in a white coat.

But honestly, if its just a crown it really wont hurt at all. If its a back one he may suggest gold as that is longer lasting for a grinding tooth. Ive had a gold one at the back for 15 years now - it only came off once when my son gave me his last rolo - never eaten one since :)

You will have two sessions, one to take the impression and she will bung on a temp and then one to fit the proper one.
