An iPhone will connect to the Internet throughout the day and therefore will use your credit up or run your bill up, even if connected to your wifi. My iPhone has connected several times over the last few days even thou i've been at home with my wifi connected; I don't know why it does it, but it does.

If you have any smartphone you need to make sure you have some data allowance included.

    Look at:

    GiffGaff
    Tesco
    Or T-Mobile

The first 2 both use the O2 network.

There are threads on both the Tesco & T-Mobile deals both are offering £10 a month deals at the moment.

Check the coverage in your area for each network before deciding

Thanks Chorlie. Seems odd tho that ipods don't cost anything to connect to wifi and the creditless giffgaff sim is still connecting!!!

    It's a bit rubbish really.

Thanks again will check out tesco and t-mobile

iPods aren't phones, so don't have a sim card etc, therefore can't use up credit / phone bill.

I think it must if it looses the wifi signal while in standby, so it kicks into 3G mode, while an iPod can only wait until the wifi is regained since it doesn't have a 3G signal to fall back onto.

This is exactly what the iPhone will be doing. Get a data bundle.

My 2p worth: do not go with Vodafone, they have absolutely no concept of customer service and getting anything sorted is a nightmare.
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail

Just turn off 'Mobile Data' on your iPhone when you are connected to your home wifi, then it won't use up your data allowance.
  • O2 everytime No contest. Vodafone customer service is beyond belief
