I have been tempted to short the Yen, and was thinking of going long on the $ but I'm less sure of that side of the equation. I have not made my mind up but if I do go ahead then I will probably use the "Short Japanese Yen Long US Dollar" ETF, code SPJY

Hence my thought of shorting. It's a bit of a mystery to me why their currency is so strong when they are in such a mess. They have enourmous debts and weak leadership. Despite that I read recently they still succeed in selling 1% government bonds, though if that is really true I can't imagine who the fools are who are buying them (my company pension fund I expect!). It will all end in tears.

Thats not a bad idea but you'll need to be quick, the BOJ interventions now have a half life of about 4 hours and their buying USD in the small hours of the morn. it's normally all over before I get out of bed. They held back last few days so it's now overdue, the usd/jpy is now at a painful 81.9
