Contact the big publishing houses and ask about 'oportunities for students'... You can get paid in book credit (or cash, but the value if you take the books is bigger). Over the last 2 years and 1 month I've gotten about £2,000 worth of books for nothing other than a few hours of my time...April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200

Do you have any more information about what this involves?

Depends on what each house has going. I've done some work involving proof reading new texts before they go to press, I've done full reviews of texts in my specialist area to help publishers build a business case for bringing out a new edition, I've put together the scientific material for a sample of a new book series concept, I keep a blog of my time a uni for one publisher, I've done more benign stuff like critical analysis of book covers for new texts and new editions of text for impact factor etc...
All really intersting stuff. Approaching people can be a bit hit and miss, but if you put the leg work in, you'll eventually hit gold, and from there on in, internal recommendations seem to get you a lot of 'work'April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
ive just started a BSC computer studies at teeside...
and have picked 6 options (one module has a pt 1 n 2) so thats 5 optional modules...
ive just bought a book "visual basic 2005" from waterstones (who arent daft are they shop next to uni) for £50 (with discount).
and amazon will be getting £15 off me for another, and theres another one i need for professional studies ( a core module, everyone must do)...
all this and i havent even sorted out my finance yet, they want MORE evidence.,0 -
Unfortunately Borders don't stock the books I want and you can't get discounts on books ordered in.
One discount not yet mentioned is the Amazon one with Nusextra. The Nusextra card costs £10 and you get 5% off at amazon. Unfortunately with this discount alone you would need to spend over £200 to get back what you paid on the card. Compared with other book stores though, Amazon books sometimes are already discounted.
And I saw this link posted elsewhere on this forum http://www.bookkoob.co.uk/0 -
