Baxi Bermuda 45/4 leaking

Hi,

i have a Baxi Bermuda 45/4 back boiler that started leaking on Friday. Call fee £140 later and is seems its the heat exchanger. Fine. All pipes to and from boiler locked off but water (now monday) still coming out. Not as much but still towels exchange every 3 hours. Fireplace marble is falling apart. Boiler company says thats the way it is until it is fixed £500 to fix and £260 for part. Looks like new back boiler. but surely water should have stopped by now - any ideas please...

What do you mean by 'pipes locked off'?

Do you mean they have been disconnected? If so it should have stopped leaking very quickly.

There is a gasket on the heat exchanger which often perishes and most often causes the leak. We advise the customer that we can change the gasket and the part only costs a few pounds, but it can be up to a days work to remove the heat exchanger, change the gasket and refit the heat exchanger and we cannot guarantee that it is the gasket until the heat exchanger has been removed so we give them the option of taking the chance and paying up to £250 to hopefully cure the problem or then getting a new heat exchanger.
Each one we have done we have managed to just fit a new gasket and the problem has been solved so saving our customer quite a bit of money.
I would point out that my husband has been working on gas for 36 years so has the confidence and experience to carry out the above where many would just advise a new heat exchanger (or in BG's case probably a new system!!)

Thank you . Will talk to brother and see if he can find a man that can as I don't think original company will want to.

In answer to your original question, no, if he has only turned off stop cocks then it will keep leaking until the system has drained, well at least the upstairs, depending on how it has been piped.

Your system needs to be drained to stop the leaking.

Thank you for all your help much appreciated. Brother drained the system. No more water. What I can't understand is why call out didnt drain it. for £140 + vat the least he could have done is drained it. I suppose its the usual - stupid woman in distress - well this one is going to find out exactly how her system works (but still leave the technical stuff to the professionals). Thanks again for all your replies.
