There's one train an hour between Preston and London - 3 an hour I think to Manchester and Birmingham. A lot more spare capacity to fill0

e-tickets are best avoided for this reason. They cost no less than "normal" tickets, yet have all sorts of "small print" anti-passenger restrictions that don't apply to normal tickets. Good luck sorting it out - you will need it.
What ID did you choose? In practice if you carry the stated ID with you, you should be OK.
If you lose the ID you selected or you can't use it (e.g. if you chose someone else's card details and they won't let you take it) then you're stuffed if the Guard asks you for ID.0 -
Email received today from South West Trains:From 24 May to 01 June, we're offering off-peak Day Returns at £14 for adults and £5 for kids, so make sure you don't miss out - that includes weekdays and weekends too!
Travel is valid on off-peak services from Sat 24 May - Sun 1 June inclusive between any two SWT served stations - except stations west of Salisbury (Exeter St. Davids to Tisbury or Warminster to Bristol Temple Meads inclusive).
Terms and conditions apply. See website for details.
I could not find the terms and conditions on their website when I just checked.
I would guess this will be available online only through their website and/or ticket offices.0 -
I used to fairly regularly go down to Bournemouth to join my wife caring for her mother.
MIL died a couple of years ago and now Southern trains is sending me a personal code with offers like this:
Where can I travel with the 15% discounted tickets?
The 15% discounted Off-Peak tickets are available for most journeys made within the Southern network plus Travelcard zones (where purchased). See the Southern network map below.
Off-Peak tickets are not available for journeys wholly within London Zones 1-6 or Gatwick Express journeys between Gatwick Airport and London Victoria (in both directions).0 -
I am always puzzled why, as a commuter, I have to pay for a 7 day ticket rather than a 5 day Mon-Fri ticket ? I don't want to travel into London on the weekend and the only reason for travel is for work, like 99.9% of fellow commuters. It defies any sensible logic why they don't offer a Mon-Fri season ticket on a one week, One month etc basis ?0

Could anybody offer advice please for train travel to and from London/Guildford? It's an absolute rat's nest trying to get the right deal!
My daughter has got herself a week's work experience placement and would be looking for travel from Guildford to London Zone 1 during usual work hours.0 -
There are no 'deals' to be had - she needs a week's season ticket which is a standard price wherever you buy it. She will need a passport sized photo from which they will produce an ID.
The only room for manoeuvre is precisely where in zone 1 and how to get there from (presumably) Waterloo.0 -
I've looked into this one in the past, from what I remember there is not any room to make savings (except what dzug1 has said about location in zone 1, maybe it is walkable so a travelcard season wont be needed, or she could change at Clapham and go into Victoria if that's nearer).
Remember a ticket to London Terminals approaching from the south is valid to Victoria, Charing Cross, Waterloo, London Bridge etc.0
