    Oh dear.

No idea where your figures come from, but if you can arrive in Exeter at 13:43 it can be done for £75.90 return... that's an Off Peak Return from Liverpool Street to Exeter via Waterloo.

Are you starting your journey at Liverpool Street or travelling by train into Liverpool Street?

You still haven't said when you are planning to return.

Hi thank you so much :)

  • Evening All,

This sort of thing boils my brain I've been trying to get a cheaper deal but no such luck at the moment. Myself and numbers just don't work together.

I'm trying to get a better deal on the following:

    *No Railcard

    Llanrwst - Stafford (Return)

    Leaving - 12th February
    Return - 27th February

    £50.50

That's the best deal at the moment which is a vast amount of money as I've done Llanrwst to Chatham for £36.00 return in the past.

If you could share your knowledge and experience on getting this cheaper I'll be forever in your debt!

    Thank you kindly,

    Psyoletic

    Hi

I am trying to find the cheapest way to get 5 adults and 11 children (ages 8-9) to London on Saturday 8th March.

We will be travelling from Hayes in Kent (zone 5) to Charing Cross and then getting a bus to Aldwych and walking from there.

There is one adult with a freedom pass and 2 Family and friends railcards available.

I had hoped that the kids for a quid would apply but it says only for travel outside London zones 1-6.

The kids will travel free on the bus so it is just trying to work out the best way to buy the tickets?

    Thanks in advance :)

I'll start by quoting Southeastern's rules on Groupsave:
    http://www.southeasternrailway.co.uk/destinations/group-save-discount/
    and now South West Trains':
    http://www.southwesttrains.co.uk/groupsave.aspx#128916

Southeastern explicitly state travel must be from stations outside the london zonal area when using Groupsave with travelcards, South West Trains do not as far as I can see.

    So:
1 Day Travelcard from Epsom Groupsave 4 with 4 acompanying children: £28.60
1 Day Travelcard (from Hayes) 1 adult 3 children Friends and Family railcard: £11.90
1 Day Travelcard (from Hayes) 1 adult 2 children Friends and Family railcard: £9.90
    1 Freedom passholder: £0.00

    Total: £47.40

    Notes:
Purchase the Groupsave ticket in advance from a website (e.g. South West Trains so their Groupsave conditions definitely apply), it is unlikely Hayes ticket office will sell this to you, Southeastern ticket vending machines do not offer it in any case.
2 children are counting as adults on the Groupsave ticket.
The other travelcards could be bought on the day.
Everyone will get their own ticket.

    Day 1 - Zone 1 Day Pass.
    Day 2 - Zone 1 & 3 Day Pass (Going to Excel)
    Day 3 - Zone 1 Day Pass.

Someone in a previous thread here mentioned a £5 temporary Oyster Card and to top it up, but I cant find the information on the internet.

You could buy a PAYG Oyster card (£5 refundable deposit plus cash for your travel) at any tube station or you could buy one day travelcards each day

The Oyster card will be slightly cheaper overall - but you have the bother of paying and reclaiming that deposit
  • Hi,

I cannot find the difference in prices between buying a travel card from the machine, or using Oyster. The TFL website isn't that friendly for me.

London to selected stations in Kent for £10 return

Any London terminal to Folkestone, Dover, Deal or Margate and includes Southeastern’s high speed service from St Pancras International. It covers travel on any off peak service from the capital, departing after 09.00 on weekdays and anytime at weekends, from now until 16 March 2014.
