I have been digging in leaf much. Easy, satisfying.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

Hi everyone, still collecting things from the plot and preparing now for next year.
Just wondered, is there anything I can do with all these beetroot leaves? There are so many, can they be used like spinach at all or are they inedible?
Thanks LYou can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt

green mustard manure has been chopped and is dug in, bearing in mind that it is a brassica and so part of a rotation. My first vegetable has been brought home, a lovely tundra cabbage with a good heart but I am wondering about the 13 others as they have slightly whorly bits in the centre but no heart yet. I loosened the environmesh over the broccolli, I did think about taking it off until I saw all the pigeons watching. It won`t grow much in the cold so will be fine
I have tray upon tray of plants ready for spring as I didn`t want them to `get lost` on the plot. That includes comfrey bocking 14 and so far I have 7 lots with good growth and 4 showing nothing as yet. It is so much easier to put plants in when they can be properly seen
2 blackberries arrived in small pots so they are comfortable in bigger new pots and will go in the soil next year. I`ll do the same when the gosseberries and blackcurrants arrive. The whole fruit and flower section is divided with layered weed fabric and pegs to make paths and all the soil is covered and ready so planting the 4 rhubarb next month will be ok.
Frost got to my christmas charlotte potatoes in a bucket so I harvested them and they are really good, must be because of the massive amount of foliage growing
I think the harder time for me will be deciding what to plant as follow on crops next year, in order to also keep a rotation going yet maximising the space. I have a bsaic rotation but I don`t want to leave bare spaces0 -

Went down to the allotment yesterday, was only planning to go for an hour, three and half later I returned home
. Had some trouble netting in the cabbages etc - not enough wood and not enough netting lol, that'll teach me for not measuring and planning it properly! Dug out a few more weeds and started pulling up the strawberries that tasted rank this year
am hoping the new ones that are growing quite nicely in my garden will taste much better. Does anybody know whether these will be ok to put in the same place as the ones that I am removing or will they have to be moved? I remember as a kid that our strawberry patch never moved. Was thinking of manuring and then replanting, what do you think? 0 -
Just heard the weather forecast and its meant to be bright and sunny in my parts this morning with risk of showers this afternoon so I think I'm going to get my act together and get down to 54A for some more digging

I'm back!! Took my DD's with me and dug for 2 solid hours and managed to clear our second bed. It still needs to be dug in some more but not bad for a mornings work and we beat the rain.
Feeling proud of myself too as my green manure in bed 1 is growing YAY!!!My mantra is "Never pay full price!"

Planted some Bulbs in a new bed I've created at the side of the shed to give a bit of Spring colour - don't want the whole place to be full of fruit & veg.
Still digging over and covering ready for overwintering, won't be back on the Allotment until Wednesday now so hope it's going to be a dry day."WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.
