Bless me father as i have sinned.

Work and my coursework, and the failure to materialise of promised help from my MIL as meant that the lottie is getting neglected. I seems to be looking after itself quite well as I only get there every few days. I have completely lost enthusiasm for the project as I am working shifts and trying to get 2 assignments written.

Came home the other day with peas, courgettes, spinach beet, radishes and beetroot (bit small tho).

I am however able to keep an eye on the toms, courgettes, beans and cucumbers I have in the back garden. So not a complete failure this year. Will do better next year - get my !!! into gear earlier too!!!

    Hey Donna

I wouldn't worry about it, there's always next year you can plan better with a bit of time! What coursework do you have to do?

Good you can grow things in the back garden hey, it's only tomatoes that I can grow in mine, for some reason everything else died, oh apart from some wierd looking salad leaves that were quite tasty!

Hiya loucroft and Wen3.., I'm in Kent too.., Gravesend. I moved here a couple of months ago. Unfortunately left my allotment behind me boo hoo and only got a back yard.., but loving the practically tropical climate lol.

I've just finished my first big raised bed.., space is limited but I am sure I'll manage to get some crops this year and next year!

Wish I lived closer.., I'd be happy to foster care for an allotment lol. I really miss getting my hands dirty etc.

No I haven't got my name down. I'm still a bit new to the area and altho I've looked on the various allotment listings, I'm not sure which area's are reachable (I don't drive and have a five year old). When things are a bit more settled I'll look into it more. I'm thinking that I might move when my year tenancy is up and find a place with a garden and crop friendly landlord lol.

loucroft: and let me guess where you sourced your ingredients for your picnic?!

with this unending heat we're currently undergoing, i'm gonna make a french bean, tomato*, shallot cous cous salad this w/e.. may crumble in some feta cheese in to give it that 'je ne sai quois'

my damsons are ripening already which is really surprising. the other day, my lotti neighbour gave me a bag full off eating apples - they're edible if a little tart...

my squashes and courgettes are really doing well, the yellow ones are the fastest growers and am picking one every other day..

i've lifted my onions and shallots and they're currently drying in a make-shift tarped tent and a glass door. about 15 out of 80 had a whitish rot/mould on the base of their bulbs and they were used in the kitchen, but the others all looked healthy. what puzzles me tho', the week before, they were all growing really healthy and tall, then last w/e, they keeled over and the leaves turned brown, sickly looking.. do you think this is 'White Rot', if so, do you think the remaining ones that looked ok, will be good for storing??? Am v. worried that they won't, so if someone can help, i'd be most grateful..

    * toms were swapped with a cucumber that a friend had already gifted me previously. isn't it so wonderful that our lotti friends do swapsies!!?
