I have no savings. and am currently on £51 pw employment support allowance although as my work contract will be terminated next month I will have to go onto jobseekers.
Do you think that would affect it ?
I'm puzzled as to how your only getting £51 ESA, ESA rate is £65 and if you've been claiming for 2 yr surely it's IB your getting at the long term rate?
Maybe you should get CAB to do a benefit assessment too.
Good luckBeth0 -
A single person aged under 25 up to £51.85
A single person aged 25 and over up to £65.45Never put tables and chairs in the same room.
If they congregate together for any length of time, they will inevitably hatch plots against you and your pets.

With his health problems, it's going to be very difficult for ryanstarr to get a room in a shared house.
I hope the CA have been helpful.0 -

CA have just said that im entitled to 65pw housing benefit, problem with that is that many dont take DSS and the ones that do set their rates at £104 pw as that is what over 25's get on DSS, im under 25 so I will only get 65pw.
so im kinda screwed, I may just have to bite the bullet and go into a hostel, I have spoken to my GP and Tourettes action and they said they can only disapprove highly of me going into a hostel with my health issues.0 -
Don't give up hope on finding somewhere, even if you have to move a few miles away. I live in the suburbs of Nottingham, rents are about the same here as Manchester, and the flats where I used to live are still charging £75 per week (and they would take benefits). I would definitely check the local papers before you commit to a hostel place. Good luck.Gone ... or have I?0

Thanks all, Im looking into places etc now, Many are saying no DSS, but good news is I have a friend who has said I can use his floor until something comes available so at least it isnt a hostel.0

Most adverts nowadays say no DSS but it is always worth putting in a phone call to the LL and explaining your circumstances. Most are a bit more lenient if it is health wise your on the benefit rather than your on JSA and can't be bothered to work etc. I am assuming you have no care needs due to your health problems?
Are you regisitered with the council, if you can get a letter from your GP backing up that you can't live in a hostel or a shared house because of the tourettes or bi-polar it may help swing things with the housing situation as well as benefits.
I had a 2 bed flat a few years ago, I got it when I was ok to work and then my health deteriorated so had to quite work and I got LHA on 1 bed rate (luckily my parents helped me out) because I couldn't live in a shared house due to my health. It may not help any but it is just worth letting them have all the information and having it backed by your GP and/or consultant.
Good luck
(No i'm not saying that everyone on JSA can't be bothered to work just that most I know are like that unfortunately.)0
