  • OK so things to do:
    1. Set up piggy bank accounts
    2. Check and compare interest rates for CC and Overdaft
    3. Look at moving my saving account
    4. Stock take my cupboards for the grocery challenge

OK so I've found out that to open basic accounts with the cooperative (who I want to go with for a variety of reasons) I have to go into branch or call them. I failed to get into town in time this morning, so will have to try caling, maybe tomorrow.

I have checked my CC and overdraft rates, and think that transfering the overdaf (19.9%) to the 0% is worth trying. I now need to find out if I can balance transfer from the same card twice - ie. transfer from overdaft to barclay card, then barclay card to eg to get the most of the 0% BT.

Did a stock take of my cupboards, no real surprises, but a good exercise none the less.

Still need to look at my savings account . . . next week.

Low spend day today, just some beans from sainsbury's and a burrito from town.

  • Well, what have I been up to?

6 out of 7 of my eBay items sold, and all the bidders have paid. Most went in the post today, so £90 odd earned (will know the exact amount once I've paid all the postage)

NSD yesterday, few bits in c0op today, and some parcel wrap for eBay stuff

But the big news is . . . *drum roll* . . . my 0% CC arrived today. And it seems I can BT straight from my overdraft, without any additional fees, without faffing with using my current card as an intermediary. Need to double- triple- check that I'm right about that before I go ahead, but is good news! :T

    Today:
£21.21 on food (I won't bore you with my shopping list!)
    £28 Dress in sales
    £15 Scarf in sales

Hmm not very good, only needed one of those things on the list. Can you guess which one it was?! I can see this will be a good discipline for keeping me in line . . .

If you haven't worn them you could take them back! it still within 30 days just!!! Well done on paying off your overdraft with the card. Now can I suggest that you also lower the limit on your overdraft so you aren't tempted by it? Or maybe ensure that you don;t spend on the card by keeping it out of your wallet?

good luck with bringing your debts down. Saving that much on the interest will be a real bonus

Thanks Chev. I have already worn the dress and scarf a lot, so wasn't money badly spent. CCC2011 has been helping me keep that kind of spending down though!

As far as overdraft goes, that is exactly the plan: pay off overdraft; reduce overdraft down to smaller buffer; put card in drawer and never use!

I have had an email from egg today confirming that BT to overdraft will be at same introductory 0% rate. Have printed it off for records and happy to go ahead with it.

    Whoop!

PS. love the quote in your sig too! :rotfl:

  • Sooo, haven't posted here for a while, I've been far too busy keeping up with other people's diaries and the challenges :D

But in the meantime, I have transferred my overdraft to the 0% card, other CC will be put on sometime this week.

Also my eBay sales raised £90, which will be going on debts, plus I was £30 left from my salary, so again that's going on the debts :money:

I've set up one of my piggy bank accounts - the guy at the co-op needed some persuading that I need 3 more accounts! :rotfl:So I'll see how the first one works out and then set up more later.

I feel so much more in control of my money now, and it's great. I still have a lond way to go, and I have to remind myself I don't need to spend a lot of the time.

Actually on that note, on the weekend I choose not to buy a coat that I wanted but didn't need. Now this doesn't sound like a big thing, but previously I would have just done it and (not) dealt with the consequences later! It's another step in the right direction.

Great news on the 0% card, and well done on the ebay sales!

That's also good news about not buying the coat, well done!

So I did that last night - will take a little time to go through, but looking forward to having all my debt 0% interest.

Not like that Z! It was more:
C0op Man "Here is our £15 a month currunt account. Would you be interested in setting that up today"
Me "Well since that's completely unrelated to why I called, err no"

I've had a bit of a spendy day today - some groceries, and a coffee grinder which was a bit of an extravagance. I was given two tubs of beans about a year ago, but didn't use them because I have no grinder, they've just sat at the back of the fridge. So once I ran out of pre-ground coffee I decided to buy one. Budgeted for though, so that's an improvement on the "old" me.

Right it is well past my bedtime - Goodnight all!

An account so poor, it's both a cur and a runt...

Would you be interested in setting that up today"
Me "Well since that's completely unrelated to why I called, err no"

And then the persuasion kicked in... ;)

No i was strong, and have one of their most basic accounts set up, although still waiting for all the bumpf to arrive.

I've been doing an interesting exercise this week - one of those things that once you start you've no idea why you didn't always do it! I've started tracking my spending as I do it - I always wrote things down, but now I'm ticking off against my budgets so I know how much I have spent and how much I have left.

Turns out it's not rocket science (although as a friend of mine once pointed out, "Rocket science isn't actually difficult - it's just blowing things up with direction!":rotfl:)
