Since we are talking big ballpark, some things I think the gov't could get away with, and would effect me greatly.

    Scrap ISA's.
Pension contributions to be taken from taxed income (I believe there are too many pension contribution dodges ATM).
All final salary pension schemes changed to contributory schemes - including civil service.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

And of course, the less breeding, the less demand on housing, roads, education and health services, natural resources etc.

Now, if there was a danger of under-population, or even extinction, then it would be a different matter.

The most environmentally damaging thing most individuals do is reproduce. Maybe, one day, someone will give birth to the inventor of a replacement for oil, but I reckon there are enough people on the planet for there to be a good chance that one of us will.

I am personally prepared to lose my job as part of the 25% cuts to higher education spending. :)

    That personal enough yet?

I'd be more than happy to sacrifice our child benefit if the cuts are across the board so that we are not losing a benefit but paying more tax to subsidise other peoples children when our own kids are missing out because their parent(s) bother to go out to work.

In some ways I think all benefits should be scrapped for everyone and everyone has to learn to stand on their own two feet. Since that is never going to happen in the legacy of the nanny state that nuLabour created, I would say that the cuts need to be made to each and every benefit (with the exception of those to the disabled) and everyone "share the pain" like we are always being quoted, not just those that bother to go out and work and pay tax.

Oh, and my suggestion to help reduce the deficit:

Legalize, regulate and tax drugs and prostitution.

Do you spend a lot on those items?

Would explain your username, I suppose...

I will also want to see
5p on all text messages sent
Fines for anyone who drops litter, chewing gum etc (lets start with £100)

Do you drop a lot of litter? Or send a lotof text messages?

If not, it's another example of getting others to pay - I wanted to see what sacrifices YOU were prepared to make.

Not that they are necessarily bad ideas, just I wanted to see how people were practicing what they preached.

Interesting, if not remotely surprising, that the usual suspects - Hamish, ISTL, joeskeppi etc - are all self-proclaimed hypocrites - they are more than happy to demand that others give up hard-earned cash to reduce the deficit, but are not prepared to offer to lose a single penny themselves.

    Exactly as I was expecting.

Utterly hypocritical - especially as the first two are extrememely well-off and can easily afford to lose some cash through higher taxes.
