What cuts are you prepared to personally suffer to repay the deficit?

I have a mortgage , but I would accept higher interest rates if it acted in some way to reduce the deficit.0

We all pay taxes. You're hardly alone.
So it's up to others, is it?

I'm a civil servant. Two year public sector pay freeze I can live with. But two year public sector pay freeze with no salary progression means I'll be over 6G out of pocket by the time I reach my grade maximum in 5 years time.
I signed up expecting I'd get to my salary max within a reasonable time. But to lose that kind of money as my "contribution" to repairing the nations finances is too much for this dude ... but I'm totally undecided what to do about it. Strike ? I'd just lose even more money. Change job ? Not keen, I quite enjoy my job, it's local with not much of a commute.
Guess I'll just need to take it on the chin. Pretty dire, though, to think that some of the people who helped cause this financial catastrophe won't be making any contribution to repairing the damage they caused, they'll never be held to account, they'll just disappear with their many pots of gold, never to be seen again.
Rubbish, innit ?I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
Well if they could make sure interest levels stayed low so we could keep the roof over our heads, I'd pay more for petrol...at least I'd have the option of lift-sharing, walking or making fewer journeys. I'd also pay a bit more tax on flights - if I felt it was too pricey to go abroad, there's always Skeggy! Plus business travellers might decide to make more use of email, video conferencing or other high-tech ways of making contact.0

I dont claim benefits at all, I think the point that's being missed is, there are plenty of areas of overspend and waste that can be cut first, if all that goes and it's not enough then fine up my taxes or whatever.
I wouldn't be happy to be asked to continue to pay money out just because some way above average household income family decided to spit a kid out at the same time as my taxes going up to cover it.
In a nutshell, nothing, unless the waste and unnecessary spend went first. Of course who determines what that is is another matter. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
