fab! now, as he's a total bully, she's going to need all the support she can get. He'll pull out every trick in the book to try and break her. I can't see the police being interested in the car situation - they have to be registered in someone's name and if she can prove she has insured it, well, that should be the end of the matter.
It's probably too late now from seeing the police but as an aside, where I used to live it was possible to register with the police as a potential/actual 'victim' of domestic abuse. They went through a long questionnaire with me and agreed there was a problem. They sent me out a lot of info but the important thing was registering my phone number somehow on their system as a priority - so I assume that if I'd ever dialled 999, they'd have been round like a shot. It would be worth your sister in law having a look as a precaution - which is all it ever was in my case - but it does make you feel a bit safer when having to deal with the crap they throw at you (frequently).0
