Hi Im new to forum and new to woodburning stove. At the moment Ive tried smokeless coal (hard to light but great heat) and heat log briquettes.
Seen an advert for peat 80 litre sack £5. Is this good?and is it just like using coal? or like wood and you have to fuel more?
Any advise much appreciated

With peats you could be fuelling all night - it burns pretty quick
I use it sometimes on my multi fuel if I have "acquired" a sack or two, but on top of a dying bed of coals to keep the heat going
Mostly I use half a bucket of smokeless briquettes and a few large logs. Tonight I lit the stove at 4pm and have used just four logs and only now is it dying back0 -
thanks for quick response suki1964:D Im just using the briquettes as they dont smoke and Im in a smoke controled area.
Ive still to master running the stove hehe, apparently briquettes are suppose to last 2 hours and Im getting just over an hour out of them.
Cant complain as still a damn site warmer and cheaper to run than electric heating:beer:0 -
Im no expert, this is just my second winter of having the stove but I find what works of me is to get the fire started with kindlers and small thinner logs, then load the smokeless, a couple of shovels. Once all lit -top up and close the top valve and nearly close the bottom. I tend to have small flames from ash coloured briquettes. Once the flames stop and Im just getting the glow I start with the big logs ( size of grate) which flame up straight away and slowly burn. Once again, once Im down to glow - I add the next log.
If Im just burning logs then yes Im refuelling a lot quicker with more logs at a time0
