Personally I love the build quality of Dells. I use to work for a biology dept. at a uni and I was responsible for spec'ing out all the machines. We always got Dells - good prices and easy to maintain machines - you don't even need a screwdriver to add more RAM.
Tip: Buy a Dell with as little memory as possible and buy it cheaper at Crucial. You'll also get more quidco.com money back that way0 -
You can get Quidco cashback on Dell purchases too!0

Thanks for the advice posted so far. This above looks interesting. I would appreciate the views of others on this PC though.
ThanksOne hundred years from now it won't matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little better because, I was important in the life of a child.0 -

I have installed loads of DELL PC's for people now, when I am asked "what PC should I get?", although I don't personally like the company! I tell them DELL, they are giving great deals constantly at the moment, the computers are reliable and extremely easy to setup. A perfect family PC imo.
Last computer I bought from them I also got some cashback from quidco, don't know if there is still a deal there, but worth a look.0 -
I'm no fan of Dell myself, which deal in high spec, cheap component PC's.
I bought my children a second user, P4 - 1800, 128 ram (which I upgraded) Compaq PC on Ebay for around £120. I choose compaq because I found a good deal & they have a good reputation etc & they have a like new PC at a great price.
As your'e looking for a PC, I would look at Ebay, as their are many second user machines going cheaply as PC's are being exchanged for laptops. But do buy a good make & don't be put off by the amount of RAM, which is cheaply upgradable & easy to fit & I would also take into account that you can buy a new 250 GIG hard drive for around £60, & add a caddy for arond £15 & you have an external drive, which is great for saving video & media files.
I'm not into games myself, but Athlon PC's would be worth looking at for your'e son if he likes games.
I agree with post 4 & would add, I would also do a "buy it now" search by keyword(s) & price, & previously sold, before bidding as their can be huge discripincies with prices, on the same & or similar products on Ebay.
If you decide you wan't new, I'd go into Pc world & ask them what the very best deal they can do for you is, typically they will tell you, you have to buy now for there offer to stand, tell them you have a loan but it won't be in your account for 2 or 3 days & they will wait without a deposit & if need be haggle, later.
Printer, I have a canon MP130 & daughter has MP 110 (printer scanner copier)& we buy inks in packs of 12 for less than £12, but later canon printers don't use compatibles. If you wan't cheap ink's go for an Epson, they are not the best build but inks are cheap & once you've bought & used a few compatible carts, it will have paid for printer.0
