I wont push him, well not too hard anyway.I just want him to want to join in,and beable to push himself.Niether I not my partner/his Dad are really very out going, and would rather hide in a group than shine. But I wish I could push myself a bit more also.Clearly how we are has rubbed off on the kids,I was aware this might happen when they were babies, and I have pushed myself a lot to join in with things and be less shy, and have become a lot more sociably confident.
    Anway I'm diversing somewhat!
Back to the costume!we have been to tesco tonight and he really wanted this halloween mask.It is a red devil with long red hair.It only has little horns and could get away with being a red man.He also got a broomstick.Any idea which nursery rhyme would fit with these things, because he seems really enthusiastic to use them! And needs a nursery rhyme character, rather than just a halloween costume! Now he wamts to join in,I want him to beable to. I'd really appreciate any ideas, thanks.

um, how old is the son who is watching Terminator movies?

it is rated as a 15...little wonder he finds nursery rhymes a bit tame.

When my dd had this at nursery(no scary characters were allowed) she went as Queen of hearts..dressed in red carrying a plate of jammy tarts.

He could go as the knave of hearts who stole the tarts...the tarts will go well at playtime.
Probably have to be shop bought as most schools don't allow home-baked produce.;)

I do know where you're coming from, but, in the end, our children are individuals. We want them to want to join in, and the school wants them to want to join in, but some children (two of mine at different times!) just DON'T want to join in, and can be made very unhappy by being MADE to join in. Much happier if left to their own devices! And may, later, decide to join in. But not if they've been forced into it.

Anyway, back on topic, I hope you found a good costume for his red mask and broomstick and that he enjoyed the day!

I dressed my dd1 in black trousers, and a black top. I made her a pair of ears on a headband and made her a cardboard violin.

She was the cat and the fiddle:)
