None of the R4 cards are genuine, The original manufacturer got sued by Nintendo. They are all copies/clones of other cards rebranded.

If you are really stuck look for the firmware entitled 'wood for ds' its a replacement firmware that only works for actual R4 card and the clones. Otherwise 7day shop is a good source and the website for firmware is on the side. The firmware just allows more compatibility so it may not be that, it may be the card itself.

Either nds-gear.com or dscardworld.com - disclaimer that I've only used nds-gear myself because their shipping to the UK is a bit cheaper but I have a few friends in the US who used dscardworld and have been pretty happy

The one thing I like about them is they claim not to sell any fakes, so they only have the one R4 SDHC for the regular DS / DS Lite, and the one R4i for the DSi console, there's no confusion or any of the common fakes I seem to bump into most everywhere else

Until thanksgiving (might work after but they didn't give date in their newsletter) use these codes:

20% off R4 SDHC / DSTT cards (the ones that are for DS / DS Lite only) - code "oldschool" at checkout
15% off everything else including DSi cards (Acekard 2i included I believe) - code "giveme15" at checkout

Not illegal to own but illegal to advertise, sell, or import.

You won't find any legitimate UK source and stand an outside chance of being having your collar felt if you buy one overseas and it gets inspected on the way in.
