I believe that you need to pay in £1500. However i think you can transfer in a monthly amount from another bank account.

Am I right in saying that unless you pay in excess of £1,500 a month you then have to pay a £10 monthly charge to bank with them? Please say this isn't so :(

The £10 monthly fee is waived under certain circumstances, such as you paying in over £1500/month, or keeping a balance of £1500 throughout the month. However you can also avoid it by having certain other products with them, like the E-saver (stick £1 in it and leave it alone!)

yes you can hold a selected additional account, which would cover the fee. But I think they like you to be able to easily qualify for these accounts before you join. Maybe open a savings account first then a current account, if you are on the line.

The call center girls are great and so helpfull.

However one note is that they are still a sales girls at heart.

    Whoops!

    Sexist or what?

The occasional lad has answered the phone on me, and done equally well.

How is this for customer service: I once had a special top-rate interest Internet Saver, from which withdrawals were not allowed, otherwise a whole month's interest went down the tubes.

In a 'mad moment', I was in a hurry, and transferred £100 out of this account in error. I meant to do it from another savings account. I got straight on the phone and asked them if they could reverse it.

They told me that sadly, this was 'locked in' on their systems and physically couldn't be done. However, he asked for 5 minutes to think about it. In 4 minutes, he was back saying that (a) they will open an 'ordinary' e-saver at slightly lower interest, but no withdrawal penalties, and (b) they would pay £50 'compensation' into the new account, which should cover the lost interest. Then finally, they would re-open a new top rate account for use next month.

I was actually £20-ish up on the deal. For my mistake.

    First Direct. You're wonderful!

Another vote for FD. Moved there from Satander last February, beating the stampede.

We're leaving Santander for First Direct. Santander are holding up the transfer of our DDs but First Direct have been nothing but helpful.

Same here... FD have been supportive and informative every time I call. Never gone past 3 rings before I speak to a human. Class!

i wasnt being sexist. I have banked wth Fd in a previous life and found the service wonderful. However I hadnt noticed any issues with them in regards to sales to me.

However I watched a tv programme about call centers. Or life in leeds or something. They focused on FD. There was the usual call center set up all girls with a guy running around remindinf them to SELL!! Thats what I meant. I am all for men and women answering the phone didnt mean to be sexist. I do find the women sexier than men though!

To continue this off topic but interesting and vital posting

If you want sexily voiced call centre staff Amex are top notch (maybe the fact they are helpful also helps). Also had a questionnaire for call for London transport by an Italian girl, that was nice 20 mins spent. :D

Wow never realised how much of a pervert I can sound like till reading this back. Honest it was meant innocently.
Santander are awful - mission in life is to warn people since 17-Sep-10, 18-Sep-10 realised one of thousands.
