Help Ladies who have been induced more than once

Hoping some ladies who have been induced more than once could help me out.
I was induced with my first at 42+1 as nothing was happening, I found it extremely agonising but very quick, from drip in to baby out was 90 mins. As my first baby was only 5.5lb despite being 2 weeks over (suspected placental defect) they said it is likely they will want to induce me this time at 38/39 weeks.
So I'm wondering if my reaction to the drugs in the drip is likely to be the same this time or not?

    It was with me,
1 hour 55 minutes with the first,

2 hours 5 mins with the second,

the extra ten minutes was them deciding whether to go for a section or have one last push with a breech birth, with one last push doing the trick. Both very painfull but both very quick. Mind you Im not ever thinking about a 3rd.

Good luck and accept all the pain relief offered.

I am scared of needles so an epidural is not an option, I can bear standard injections and drips only after applying Emela cream (yeah I know I am pathetic, how on earth will she get through birth? - with a lot of screaming!)

I had both my 2 induced

Both took around the same time - 2 and 1/2 hours start to finish. They were both pretty intense but in all honesty not hugely painful.(well not as bad as I expected, I don't have an uninduced labour to compare with) I had gas/air for the first and nothing for the second (mostly cos gas/air made me feel sick, not cos I'm brave!)

The contractions were about the same for each, but the 'pushing' stage was def easier 2nd time around. Presumably due to muscles never quite regaining the same tautness as before.
  • I've been induced all four times, each subsequent time being a bit quicker (as is the norm) but not dramatically so. I don't think there's that much rhyme or reason to it, I'm afraid- but the fast labour last time is a good indicator. Good luck :0)

  • Thanks for the replies, it's interesting that all 3 of you have found that the labour has lasted an almost identical time, that's good news for me!

First induction took 3 days, once they managed to break my waters on the 3rd day labour lasted another 10 hours - probably should've had a caesarian (sp) but the 3rd day was a bank holiday and my consultant was on holiday.

2nd time they broke my waters first attempt and then I had another 7 hours labour but not as painful as first time.

Both times the epidural partially failed, and I was advised never to have one again cos I 'must have a kinky nerve in my back'

Once your waters went the times were not disimilar, I think if I do get induced again I could be in for another intense quickie - thanks ladies.

Hi. The first time round i was induced and labour lasted about 7 hours from start to finish, the second time i was induced and labour lasted about 4 hours from start to finish. i have to say though that the last stage before birth was quick, and alot quicker the second time round. I was told if i had another he/she would come out like a bullet...I stopped at 2 :-)

  • I was taken into hospital as i went over by 8 days and had a high blood pressure....i was induced....nothing happened....i was induced again......nothing happened.........i was induced again the next morning and then that night my waters broke and i had my little one 14 and a half hrs later!

I guess everybody is different, you just have to take it as it comes with as much or as little help is necessary for you. You will be fine, after all, you have already had one so you're an old pro ;)

    Good luck x
