    what are cobnuts?

They're like a hazelnut - unless they are actually hazelnuts - but they're always available with a bit of green on, on the markets - taste like chocolatey praline :) My favourite bit of winter nosh!

awww :( My ma, when I was younger, put all the presents under the tree on Christmas eve and let me pick one to open as a birthday present, leaving the rest until Christmas day. Some years i did good (Gameboy, etc) other years I sulked (3 x grey knickers). x

    Lol at grey knickers!

Don't envy you being Xmas eve! I always had good birthdays as a kid but as an adult its generally not worth it, everywhere is booked full even if we had the money to try and go out! Odd how both my daughters have July birthdays.... ;)
    :heart2: Mumma to DD 13yrs, DD 11yrs & DS 3 yrs. :heart2:

My friend and I used to share a winter birthday (we still do, but I live on the other side of the world now and mine is a summer one!. We used to both take the day off work and spend it together. We'd make a really nice brunch, or go out if we could afford it. Then we'd spend the day together on the couch with duvets, watching movies or playing playstation, whatever we decided was fun. Sometimes we'd go out to a movie, maybe a wintery walk, things that seemed so delicious on a workday.

Then in the evenings we'd meet up with friends and go out for dinner, cook dinner at someone's house, you get the idea. Just doing things on a workday that you couldn't normally do was so nice!

I think I may have got some of you beaten... my thoughtless mother gave birth to me at 5.40a.m. Christmas day!
Everyone says that they get me 1 present to the value of 2, but rarely happens - besides, there's nothing like opening 2 presents separately is there? But it's understandable - everyone's broke at Christmas and after all, it's the thought that counts,
    ISN'T IT? :rotfl:
I thought I'd gotten my own kind of revenge - DS (only child) was born Valentine's Day.:D
It wasn't until the 5th year, that I realized that spending Valentine's Day in MacDonalds for DS's birthday wasn't very good for your love life!!!  ;) lol.
As for DS, he's now 16 and the girls love the fact that he was born on Valentine's Day!:o
Bah, humbug! Oops - can't afford them either!:rotfl:
I've had an idea  - next year I'm going to celebrate Conception Day instead! And as you can rarely know exactly the exact conception date, just to be sure, I'll celebrate the last 2 weeks in March and the first 2 in April!:T :rotfl:

  • 1. Invite your friends over and get everyone to bring their speciality dish and a bottle instead of a gift. Then have a buffet with all the food and a real good night in (maybe even do some pictionary or something, always good fun when you are slightly tiddled..). If you are quick you can still pluck blackberries and maybe get some apples from someone who has an appletree. Already make the filling for a crumble (freeze the mixture) and that can be your dish!!
    2. If you know it is going to be dry go for a long walk with a big thermosflask with mulled wine and brandy!!
    3. Organize a walkaround dinner. Starters at one friend, walk to the next house for main course and walk to yours for dessert (back at the crumble). The more friends, the more courses. This is actually really good fun!!!
    4. For a girly night in, have an Avon/Virgin Vie/Ann Summers party?

    good ideas Tink :)

My DD has her birthday on halloween which is brilliant as we always have a good theme and not matter what age the kids like to dress up. Which reminds me, I must start organising it

My actual birthday was a bit lame, mainly cos tuesday b/days are

Spent most of the day hanging out here and woo hoo even a drs appointment!

But the main point is the w/e where im off to the parents and then to do my big shopping thing :D

I think what would have been nice would be to go for a sauna. Especialy in really terrible weather like today , a sauna would be nice.

Or a facial to exfoliate away that winter skin.

I guess if you trawl online enough youll find some sort of vouchers or something towards it,. or ask for it for a present.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • Me, my son and husband are all in January.

A nice meal at the Carvery (3.99 in the day, £4.50 in the evenings) is usually the way to go - a communal affair.

All of my friend's three children were born in January. Her husband says she produces Easter eggs.
