Rude Estate Agents

Options
We've just put an offer to buy a house on saturday morning & they've still not rang us back to let us know what's happening!

We're not going to phone them as it looks like we're desperate which we're not but you'd think they'd be all over us like a rash considering the state of the housing market!

We've had problems with this 'lady' before when we arranged to see a property & she messed up the times of the viewings & then complaining to us that we didn't turn up.

It's a huge national chain of estate agents you'd think they'd be on the ball & to make matters worse I think she's the branch manager?

I know its frustrating just stick with it. Maybe the agent has had problems reaching the vendor.

    Keep looking at other houses.
  • The vendors might have been uncontactable over the weekend, then hubby has gone to work this morning so wifey is waiting to speak to him tonight to decide on the offer...calm down dear.

Or, the EA is incompetant/lazy/disdainful of the offer...
Act in haste, repent at leisure.

Hi, I know how you feel. I had an offer made on my house last Friday afternoon which was 50k less than the asking price (which had already been reduced 3 times). I phone the EA back and said I'd meet them half way (ie they go up 25k, I'll come down 25k) but haven't heard anything back. I'm on tenderhooks now as just wish they'd let me know one way or the other.
  • It's the vendors: either the agent hasn't been able to contact them or they're mulling over your offer and don't want to get back to you because they fear that they will be the ones who appear desperate.

Sit tight and wait, it's only Monday after all

yes but surely if that was the state of play then a courtesy call to let us know what's happening wouldn't go amiss :(
  • You're expecting common courtesy from the vendor's agent? Think again! They'd be all over you like a rash if you were the one paying their fees
  • I think you maybe on to something here, we put an offer in for the same house (10k under the asking price) in May but got rejected (. They've just brought the price down 5k & we've put the same offer in! Think they're trying to save face :D

Not necessarily - I put in an offer on a flat a while back, gave them over a week and when I called the EA said 'Oh, I didn't realise that was your offer'!!

The offer was in writing, including my solicitors details etc... Did she think I was practising or something?

I bet they are just making you sweat it a little..... just in case you call them and up your offer :)

I've put an offer on a plot this morning.... direct with the vendor ..... they said they'd call me right back. That was 5 hours ago :D

Just be patient..play the game better than them!

In all honesty its in the best interest of the agent to negotiate the sale and secure an acceptable offer as quickly as possible of so they can " secure " their fee.

There is little point in making a prospective buyer wait any longer than is necessary , as there is a good chance they will go elsewhere .
