Local pickup - charged?

And if they are private technically they can't charge for time as it would be chargeable as a wage (very very very strict interpretation of the tax code). I think in the interests of pricing efficiently a business should work any extra costs into their overall cost accounting and charge it to item price. If this is the reaction buyers have to an extra charge for collection, businesses would be daft to use it too much to cover their costs.

However, they are not necessarily outside any rules or laws or whatever, and if that £4 is not a huge proportion of the auction price it's not even unreasonable.

If you don't like it then don't buy it.

Just add £4 to the cost of whatever your buying. Does it really matter to you that ebay will be making a little bit less out of them?

As a seller who tries hard not to overcharge, yes, it does matter that someone else isn't paying for the service they use.

I sell too, and just do free post now, so I understand what you are saying, but when buying goods, personally I don't care if they overcharge on postage, I have already taken this cost into account when I bought the item. I would rather the seller save on ebays fees, because as a seller myself I know thay take an awlful lot!

I bought a pet cage off ebay, It was a pet shop about 12 miles from here. Initially thought
collection fee, NEXT PLEASE...

But when i checked prices they were still more than a couple of £ cheaper with the fee & fuel costs.

Collection fee - they are overcharging for postage? Or is it an item they can get dropshipped for less?

Money talks and i just cannot resist a bargain.
