tune up utilities question

i've just installed this and it asks about my internet connection. it asks how is your computer connected to the net. then there are a number of options. they are,

dsl.
fibre optic.
cellular.
satelite.
dialup.
other connection types.

now on this i feel almost sure it is fibre optic.
there is a second selection to choose from after that. this is were i dont have a clue. the choices are,
from 2mb.
from 6mb.
from 16mb.
from 25mb.
from 50mb.
from 100mb.

so what should i select? all i know about my connection is that it is cable from virgin media and upto 10mb speed.

  • Virgin Media would be DSL. The fibre optic they talk about in the adverts are only the backone. If you had one to your house you would be paying thousands of pounds per month.

really? i am sure in their ads when they say why they are better and faster than anyone else it is because they say they use fibre optic cables and others dont.

dont understand this. sorry i know i am being dim.
there is cable installed underground that goes past our house along the street. there is another cable that is connected to this again underground that is connected to a small box outside our house. there is then the cable that goes from that into our house and into the back of the modem.
at no point is there a bt line involved unlike in most peoples cases.

tuneup/tweaking utilities are snake oil, unlikely to make any positive difference to speed, and likely to slow things down if anything. Less is more, especially if it puts things in your startup

Most of the slow pc hijackthis logs on here have too much security and tweaking software, which instead of helping speed, causes the problem.

    It's definitely DSL.

The cable going into the back of it is co-axial. Only the stuff underground is fibre-optic.

I had tune-up utilities installed a while back, and it did very little.

Please for the love of god if you're using Vista or Win7 leave it alone and don't use this. Vista and Win7 do network tuning on the fly, you've no need for a snake oil application.

Apart from disabling Search Indexing and System protection (restore) and switching Aero off. Are there any other major (and straightforward) tweaks that could speed Win 7 up?
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
