You can get dual core pentium 4s, which are good chips.

But I am sorry to push you, but can get good and bad pentium 4's and d's. You need to give us more information on the computers you are thinking of, if you are looking online, if you show us a link we can tell you if its any good.

But chippy is right that the core 2 duos are the way forward at the moment.

    "at the moment" is right.

By Christmas quad-core processors will be in the shops :T

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.
  • Yep - the Intel Core 2 Duo is much better!!

Came to 543 quid when I looked at the specs!!

Most applications may not be able to take advantage of Quad cores anyway. Also methinks that only the premium level processors will be quad core and that value segment and midrange quad cores will come much later.

Anyway by then there may be 8 core processors!! Unless you want to wait for MS Vista there is really no point in waiting eternally for new better things as it will happen!! If you REALLY need to replace your pc then it is better to do so now because in 24 months time you will probably get twice the performance for half the price!!
  • My head is spinning with all this processor stuff!!!
  • Basically Core 2 Duo is better but unless you are playing the latest games and doing loads of video encoding and 3D rendering the Athlon X2 will be more than enough for most people!!

Don't fret over quad cores, etc - the Dell is good enough spec!!
