New Homebase Kitchen Damaged Sink.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice or relay any personal experiences of Homebase customer support.

We have recently taken delivery of a Homebase kitchen which I am fitting myself. Part of their terms and conditions is that you must report any missing or damaged items within 7 days of the delivery. This 7 day period ended last Thursday. After delivery we checked all the items delivered against the delivery note and then opened all the boxes to check for damages etc. One slightly damaged carcase was replaced with no problems.

However, today I wanted to build the under sink cabinet and needed to put the sink itself on top to see what modifications were needed to make it fit properly. On unwrapping the stainless steel sink I discovered a dent in the corner of the bowl probably from where it had been dropped on the corner. Now I know that the damage didn't occur after the delivery because the sink has been stored on a sofa in the spare room and not touched so it can only have happened prior to us receiving it.

What I would like to know is where we stand on this bearing in mind that it is now past the 7 days for reporting damages. Also, has anyone else had a similar issue and, if so, what was your experiences with Homebase customer services regarding getting items replaced after the 7 day period.

We are going to give them a call tomorrow and see what they say but from other reports I've seen on the internet I've got a feeling I may be out of luck.

Regards

Russell

is the sink one of the ones they stock in store or order in only, i would think the sink would come from a different supplier than the units themselves and because you have your receipt you should be able to exchange it for an undamaged one, stand your ground, sinks taps and appliances are different to units and id keep repeating that to them.

Gosh how things have changed many years ago i used to work for homebase ordering kitchens and going out to clients to replace items if they needed them quickly ie in the middle of a build, seven days is certainly not enough time you would need to open all the boxes and check every carcass size id certainly stand your ground im sure they will exchange it for another one for you if not id speak to the store manager and id go into to see him in the store i hope this helps
  • Thanks for the reply.

I think the sink is one they order in specially as I havn't seen them in the store. I agree that seven days is not sufficient time to check everything. The trouble is that you have so much stuff delivered and it is stored in every available space in the rest of the house that you just havn't got room to open every box, take everything out to check and then repack it all until you are ready for that particular pack. Unfortunately you only find that out after you've placed the order.

Anyway, we'll give them a call today and see how we go. If Homebase are unwillling to help then the credit card company may be another avenue.
  • I just thought I'd post an update on this.

I called the Homebase kitchen helpline and reported the damage to the sink but they weren't interested as it was past the seven day period. However, they did advise me to speak to the store where I originally ordered the kitchen from. I called the store and got in touch with the kitchen department manager who said that officially they couldn't do anything but that she would contact head office and see if they would do anything for me.

Anyway, on Friday last week the lady from the store called me back to inform me that head office have agreed to replace the sink and the new one is being delivered on Tue 19th Oct.

So, all in all, a very satisfactory outcome (subject to the new sink arriving undamaged).
