If you were able to use the leads before on dial-up, use the same leads, I don't understand how it can't fit?
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

    Hi,
Im having the same problem ... i've recently changed over to broadband ... i started using the telephone extension lead which was working fine but then my provider had automatically ugraded my connection speed (not complaining tho :D ) ... which was too fast for my telephone extension lead ... i got an RJ11 - RJ11 extension lead from PCworld which works great ... get the same connection speed (8.2mbps) using it on my PC (its 15m long) as i do if i connect using the small one provided when using my laptop ... its the 'Telecom Ultra Flat Extension Cable Kit 15m' for £9.99 ...

... the only trouble is its really made to be put under carpet or along the skirting board etc ... as it is so thin ... so i need a thicker cable as it needs to reach to different rooms so i need to be able to move it ... I've found one on amazon ... but there are two different RJ11 cables ... one with a bigger head and one smaller (please see the links below) ... and I'm not sure what one I need i think its the smaller one ... could anybody give any advice to this poor novice :o

    Bigger One

    Smaller One

    Thanks x

I did point this out in a previous post why it wouldn't work..............

The extension used for a dialup connection would have a RJ11 plug from the modem to a normal BT plug on the other end (it doesn't fit. or need any filters at the phone end, it plugs straight into the BT socket). Broadband uses RJ11 to RJ11 from the router/modem to the filter.

Try THIS SITE for a speedtest. It normally gives a good indication of your line speed.

A better speed test would be to download many files at the same time and add the transfer rates. The adslguide.org.uk speedtest is sometimes inaccurate depending on how busy it is.

Try to download 1 or 2 files at the same time from here: http://fuller.zen.co.uk/test/

I use a "Cat 5 Type" foil-shielded RJ11 cable (basically it is constructed to CAT5 cable standards but with rj11 connectors). I sync at around 16MBits on my ADSL2+ connection. ;)

It is the same as this but I have the 5M cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Speed-Internet-Modem-Cable/dp/B0002XY11Y/sr=8-1/qid=1160347332/ref=sr_1_1/202-4598972-9107814?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

I find that the effects of EMI are less since using a shielded rj11 cable and I have been getting less CRC errors, as reported by my router.

    Hope this helps.

So nice to see another recommendation for one of the top ISPs in the UK (Zen). This is why I've been using them for the last couple of years (pure excellence from this company).

Be aware that downloading these files could take more than a few minutes if you go for more than one at a time, even on Max (they are 100MB each).

If anyone is really serious about cables. You can even use Cat5 for your phone line extensions (the best way). You'll get far better transfer using this cable (even for your normal phone).

I can't point you to any on the net, I make I own cables up (by far the best and cheapest way IMHO).

    Good morning everyone,:)
Hope I'm posting in the right place. I am technologically challenged  and I am looking to buy a camcorder. Never done it before.
It needs to be able to record sound at a good quality as well as a good picture obviously. I need to use it for my DS who has just gone into Performing Arts College studying Musical Theatre so that he can critique himself and review it. I'm hoping this is an example where technology and the arts can compliment each other. It does have to be around £200-£300 and something that won't become immediately superceded because I won't be able to afford another. Record onto a DVD? It also has to be idiot-proof! ;)
    Thank you guys and girls

May I suggest instead of puting this post in a thread about RJ11 cables you start a new thread and title accordingly.

This way more people will see your post as people that dont know about RJ11 cables may not even read you question
