Personally I'd keep them open as later if & when you apply for credit a question often asked is how long have you had the account - looks good when you say years - used or not :D

My Nationwide Flex account was the simple cash card so I never used it since opening 4 years ago but, they've now changed it to a debit card & an embossed one (not electron), so despite not using it I did pretty well keeping it :D

A few weeks ago while my m8 was getting a phone contract they looked at his card (electron, un-embossed) & refused it but, mine they accepted happily :)

I love your way of thinking Fedz. :T

Im going to have to empty my wallet of bank cards now and just keep the cards in itI actually use. Ive got a new Northern Rock Debit card on the way lol.

You can always get an available balance @ an ATM.

I like the idea that Co-Op use a card reader for Internet
transactions. I find that Co-Op update their systems quicker
    after midnight.

I've found branch queues non existent. Most of other banks have
    horrendous queues!!

Telephone enquiries are very efficient 9.5 / 10.

The only problem with the Northern Rock Cash Card upgrades is that the card is for UK use only

I totally agree with you regards to branch queues they are non existent. I think the co op are a great bank and I love the fact you can pay money in at the Post Office. Its just the delay in them debiting your account when you pay by card that annoys the life out of me.

  • Just a quickie does having a basic bank account reporting to the CRAs actually do anything for your credit rating?

Is Northern rock offering a current account/savings account?

Is it a normal current account but more of a savings name for it instead?
    Let the sunshine.
