Basic Bank Accounts

True, very true. They make it as difficult as possible for you to monitor your account as it causes unnecessary confusion & extra work.

I argued with them for years about this from front-line staff to line supervisors to line managers to an official complaints on numerous occasions.

I told them out of the several basic current accounts with different banks I have they (co-op) are the only ones that do this but, they said I'm mistaken it's normal standard internet banking for all

You send yourself to an early grave trying to get them to better themselves & bring their internet banking to better, higher more useful standard that's fit for purpose in respect of increasing usage of Visa debit cards & quicker reflection of the usage on available balances via their internet banking ...

The co op have alot of work to do when it come to technology :rotfl:

I do appreciate that the co op have been a lifeline to thousands of people without bank accounts and there customer service is great. But they just need to sort out there IT systems :D

    Again, I totally agree :)

It's why I stuck with them for over a decade but, with using your debit card several times a-day it was getting harder & harder to keep track of a balance plus it does have a more serious security aspects: if someone fraudulently used your card it would be 3 days before you found out OR you'd suspect something when transactions got refused but, you could be in the supermarket with a trolly full of shopping & it get refused ... :rotfl:

It got to the point I stopped buying online as I didn't know a true available balance :wall:

Thats it im 100% opening a barclays account 2moro and getting shot of the co op.

Im just hoping barcalys accept me this time for some reason last time over a year ago they declined my application. I think it was because i wasnt on the voters and i lived in a new build property that didnt come up on royal mails systems.

I closed mine but, I wouldn't advocate it to be honest. Keep the co-op maybe as a 'backup' in years to come they might have an urge to upgrade their internet banking and or debit card & if you already have the account they'll just upgrade you without the hassle of re-applying, showing ID & proof of address for the past 3 years ...etc :)

If you have a passport & or driving licence plus some utility bills you'll be fine as you have to apply in-branch anyway but, I've never had a passport & or driving licence but, use P60, wage slips & utility bills as proof if in-branch but, I've never been refused an account on-line as I've lived at my present address for 16+ years :)

Barclays are pretty decent so you won't go far wrong in regards to account usage :)

I found that I had to be really firm with Barclays in order to open their basic account. They kept trying to upsell me to the other more lucrative accounts. Even then I found out that the advisor had opened an ISA for me against my wishes.

I went into barclays today and they started asking me whether I had home insurance and all that jazz.

Ive got an appointment for 2 weeks time to open a cash account.
  • Just to keep you updated I managed to get my Barclays Cash Account & ISA open today. I was in there about 20 minutes walked out with my account numbers and sort codes.

    I know im torn now.

Do I close some of them or just leave them open and rack up the green zeros on my credit report.

    What do you think Fedz?

Personally I'd keep them open as later if & when you apply for credit a question often asked is how long have you had the account - looks good when you say years - used or not :D

My Nationwide Flex account was the simple cash card so I never used it since opening 4 years ago but, they've now changed it to a debit card & an embossed one (not electron), so despite not using it I did pretty well keeping it :D

A few weeks ago while my m8 was getting a phone contract they looked at his card (electron, un-embossed) & refused it but, mine they accepted happily :)
