3 Phone issue bill after 5 years

Hi - I just got a bill though the post from 3 Phone for £144 for a contract that ended 5 years ago in 2005. There are no details on the bill other than that I am £144 in arrears. Could anyone please advise?
Many thanks

How did you end the contract 5 years ago? Did you get your pac code? or pay an early termination fee?

You will find some similar threads on this forum. Frustrating though 3 Customer Services can be, it is worth pursuing the matter with them till you get resolution/explanation.

Unfair though it is, they are in a position to damage your credit score even if they are wrong, so you need to open a dialogue with them to find out exactly what the outstanding bill is for. Also check with Experian to see what is currently posted against your record.

The "debt" being 5 years old is irrelevant - if you owe them, they have 6 years to take action to get paid.

But you should be given an itemisation on how this figure outstanding has been arrived at.

Write to them, saying you wish to dispute the bill, ask them to stay any enforcement till the dispute is resolved and ask them to explain the figure they say you still owe them, (keep a copy and use recorded delivery), then take it from there.
