Nice Areas Around London

I have never lived in Essex but when I visit, I find the people very friendly and positive.mrsc wrote:We currently live in Essex, and commute into London on a daily basis it takes about 40 minutes, driving you have good access to the A12 and A13. I can't say much about the schools as we don't have children but my schooling was good and I would send my children to the same school. Most areas are very nice and we might be biased but I love living in Essex. An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T

I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0 -
Moving to (hopefully!) a nice bit - Studio way.
Around that area, there's also Bricket Wood. Its a really nice large village, practically hidden inside a wood. It's just up the road from Radlett.. but it's a bit pricey as no new houses ever get built there0 -
St Albans is lovely - I went to a huge wedding at the cathedral and it was magical. I also worked there and it is friendly there.ringo_24601 wrote:No one's mentioned north of London. I'm moving to Borehamwood soon and buying my first home. You could also consider Watford or St. Albans. Both are on very fast links into London. An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T

We live in a small town in North Herts with excellent schools, where house prices are a lot lower than St Albans/Harpenden etc, but it is still a nice place to live.
"Around London" is a huge area - can you narrow it down at all. Do you need/want to have transport links to anywhere in particular ie to see friends/family.0 -
I have never been to Slough, Croydon or Watford but have heard they are horrible, sorry to anyone who lives there. An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T

Yes, central London is very different to within the M25 and just outside the M25. The nearest equivalent, culturally is south of London or south west of London.clairehi wrote:We live in a small town in North Herts with excellent schools, where house prices are a lot lower than St Albans/Harpenden etc, but it is still a nice place to live.

Hiya, we are in a similar position, hubby needs to move closer to London for work, we have gone for Surrey & in particular a little town called Oxted, he has a few friends there who have suggested it, its a lovely place, but expensive & has one of the best schools in the country (apparently) its small enough to have a community feel, but big enough to have a gym, swimming pool, shops etc.
We're going to book ourselves a travelodge next weekend & spend a couple of days around the Surrey area, just being generally nosey & getting a feel for the area, maybe visit a few letting agents too. See what we think of the place.0 -
Stevenage is cheaper than other places in Herts.clairehi wrote:We live in a small town in North Herts with excellent schools, where house prices are a lot lower than St Albans/Harpenden etc, but it is still a nice place to live.
