Freesat - Please help me get ITV1 Central EAST

Hi all

When I put in my postcode in the Freesat receiver, I get Central West, whereas I should be Central East (I get Central East on Analogue and Freeview)

Can someone please give me a postcode where I will be able to get Central East?

Thanks

ITV Central East has been moved to the Astra 2B Saterlite which has a wide beam and covers most of Europe. Therefore it had to be encrypted and as such is no longer available on Freesat. Central West is the default channel when your postcode is not covered.

    Oh dear!
Like the OP I would like to get Central East. The programmes do not bother me (if indeed they are different) but it is the news and more importantly the weather forecasts.
I have compared my Freeview ITV (central east) and the news seems to be exactly the same, with Sam and Bob and Steve etc, but the weather is presented by the same person (lucy?) but the maps cover the East Mids, unlike central west which has west mids maps, I have not compared the dialogue but cannot see that to be different unless it was recorded.

That's interesting, and strange, what's the point of it being there if its encrypted? is it only for Sky?

Yes it is only receivable with a Sky viewing card. Considering there are over 10million Sky cards around and only about 1.5 million freesat viewers ITV consider this a minor problem about which they can do nothing else. There are quite a few subregions with similar problems and it is down to a lack of space on the satellite transponders that broadcast on the UK only transmission footprint. This situation may change in 2012 when new satellites are launched to replace the present ones which have more capacity for UK only transmissions. So your choices at present are
1 Use Freeview for regional variations
2 Use FreesatFromSky for regional variations
3 Put up with wrong region on freesat

It needed to be moved to make space for the regional versions of ITV1HD when it launched as a full time channel (rather then a red button option). It was just an unfortunate consequence rather then a delibarate move to make it exclusive to Sky and FreeSatFromSky users.
