Hi,
I need to upgrade my 20 year old boiler, and I wondered if anyone can tell me if they know the cheapest way of buying a new boiler at the moment?
I don't meet the criteria for any benefits, and I believe the boiler scrappage scheme has ended.
Hope someone can help as I just don't know where to start.

If you have a non operational boiler bg will give you a goverment 500 grant towards it plus all their other discounts and the recent 30% installation price drop....may be worth a free quote for a guide.0

Why do you NEED to upgrade?0

Thanks for the info ollski - that sounds good.
Cardrew - The main reasons we need to upgrade the boiler are that it's 20 years old and has had intermittent problems for years (due to it's age it's probably not the most efficient either). It's also currently located in the kitchen, and as we're now finally in a position to get a new kitchen fitted, it's probably the best time to upgrade the boiler too, also, from a cosmetic point of view the newer boilers tend to be much smaller than the cumbersome monstrocity I have taking up valuable space in the kitchen right now.0 -
Independents will still be at least 20-30% cheaper than any BG offers combined usually0

Really? That surprises me. So the best thing to do is to initiallly get a quote from British Gas for comparison, and then get a quote from an independent.
My other half said we're getting a combi-boiler, but I don't know whether there are different types of combi boiler, or whether it then just comes down to what make you buy. It's all new to me!0
