2GB works fine on my Win 7 .
Can no longer be bothered to unscrew/buy stuff for little realtime gain .
My laptop showed no gain upgrading from 1GB to 3GB on Win 7 .
Likewise i would not be overly bothered about running 64 bit as opposed to 32 bit as i see little improvement in day to day use .

But if you have 4GB Ram and 64 bit OS might as well make use of it .

No you cannot do a clean install from an upgrade disk, hence why you pay less for it. If you do an upgrade you will keep all your docs but it will bloat the OS out, as it retains the old system in case you want to revert. If you want a fast system with no issues then clean installs are the best.

Oh, but you can. But it's just easier to do it with a full disc.

I'm running Win 7 64 bit and haven't found any problems getting suitable drivers.

It's my son who has Vista and is now fed up with it.

Sorry should have put in a "possibly" somewhere. :)

jem16, if you're running Win7 don't you have a disk, or do you only have a restore partition?
    Move along, nothing to see.

I do have a Win 7 disk - it's a Home Premium one though and my son wants the Professional version.

Having done so, I know this comment is wrong!

you get the option to upgrade or install a fresh copy (as long as a valid OS is present on a hard drive in the PC)
