If I buy the upgrade version of Win 7 can I do a clean install rather than an in place upgrade from Vista to Win 7?

If so how?

    A few more questions.

    1. Will Win 7 64 bit run on 2Gb RAM? I can upgrade to 4GB RAM but meanwhile don't want everything to be too slow. Am I better with 64 bit rather than 32 bit?

    2. Ran the Upgrade Adviser - it says I need to have Vista SP1 to upgrade. My problem is that SP1 won't donload - some sort of corruption. Will this give ne a problem upgrading? I want to do a Custom Install anyway rather than an inplave upgrade.

Don't worry about all that if you are going to do a Clean Install. The licence is the most important thing. Just back up your important files.

I'd say Win7 will run at least as quick as Vista with 2GB RAM.

Consensus is probably 64bit rather than 32bit, if you're prepared/happy to search around for printer drivers etc.

That said, Windows update found and installed the drivers for my 2 printers, an aged Canon i560 and Hp laserjet 1320, after the respective websites drew a blank.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I'm running Win 7 64 bit and haven't found any problems getting suitable drivers.

It's my son who has Vista and is now fed up with it.

It's not a specific make. It was bought to order from a local computer shop.

Perhaps you can download Windows 7 directly and run a test install(you have thirty days of use before you have to enter and obtain the activation code. So you can try before you buy.
