Two bed house, 2 adults 2 kids. nothing that uses a huge amount of electric that I can think of, although power shower does frequently get left on when not in use. And stuff does get left on stanby over night so that probably why its such a high useage.

As above i woulddn't bother with the standby stuff as that won't get anywhere near accounting for the '000s of KWh, personally I have lots of gadgets and am very lazy/wasteful with standby functions which pushes my useage up to 2900 kWH pa for my 2 bed apartment -could probably shave a third off that if i was more careful.

6000 odd KWh has to be something substantial -heating is always a prime suspect, if the power shower has some kind of always on heating element that could well be a significant culpret but can't be the only one for that useage (if accurate).... is there an electric immersion heater tucked away somewhere? electrically heated towel rails? small football stadium in the back garden you have floodlit 24/7? dodgy neighbour hacked into your wiring running a canabis factory off it?

Might have worked it out....darling husband has just mentioned that he has an electric radiator in his shed that is NEVER turned off at the socket. He says it won't make any difference at all cos it's only ever on at just above freezing.....

I'm going to switch everything off on Saturday morning and see if there is anything we don't know about. I'm fairly sure that the electric useage is correct, we had a brand new meter fitted on 24/01/2008 and when I read it on 22nd Sept it was total 25015, and now it reads 25285. I don't think we have an electric imersion heater.

Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

I suspect your 'hardly ever on' rad has been costing you in the region of £500 a year then...
If you look at the top of your hot water tank it will be quite obvious if you have an immersion heater or not.
Your reading over 12 days is consistent with a usage of around 8,000kWh pa.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Why on Earth does he need a radiator in a shed on?

    Get it turned off
