I have one of those DGM boxes, wired to the router, it's not seen in Win7 in the Network, XP is fine.
I've seen it written that it's to do with the alleged MS order to not allow Win7 to play with Samba.
The other problem is that it is formatted Fat32.
One solution would be to get hold of an old PC and use FreeNAS.
If you can set up the DGM, then you'll almost certainly find FreeNAS a breeze.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
To be honest, im looking to avoid netgear stuff.
Any other suggestions?
Regarding free nas, i dont really want to leave a pc on 24/7.0 -
Have a look at the Iomega range. PC World stock it.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0

Have you tried getting in touch with the people at the SmallDrives.com link that I posted?, they're were pretty helpful for me.
Can't understand what all this "not compatible with W7" stuff is about, I setup the SMB server on it then just mapped it as a network drive on both my W7 & XP machines and it just appears as a drive letter on all the machines. It's formatted as FAT32
Works on my Linux machine as well (but I didn't set that up).0 -

Good pointer, I've just phoned them. The guy said most compat problems arise with SMB but he had some NDAS enclosures which, he explained, don't suffer incompatibility, mainly because they come with their own driver which isn't OS sensitive. He also had some cheap NDAS enclosures which are IDE compatible so I've ordered one. See how I get on.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0 -
Have just received and fixed up my NDAS Ximeta IDE enslosure (from Small-Drives).
It's great, very stable and quick (wi-fi being the limiter).
You have to install the driver on each PC and register to the enclosures key. Once done, the drive shows up, almost like an external USB rather than a mapped network drive.
A neat solutuion that gets round any OS issues.Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc0
