They're just scum with no concept of respect for other peoples property and the effort that goes into paying for them.

Both my car and my mum's car had their wing mirrors broken off last night. (As well as a couple of cars in front.) I don't even know how I'm going to afford to get it fixed. :/ It's just so mindless.

I just had an idea. You say you know who at least one of the purpetrators are. Providing they're not on benefits with no money, you can pursue a civil claim in the Small Claims Court for the cost of repairing the damage caused. The thing is that a criminal case (i.e. for the offence of criminal damage) has to be proved beyond reasonable doubt, but a civil case is just balance of probability, so you'd have some chance. If you have legal cover on your home or car insurance I would call the legal advice line first for, erm, advice!

I would be constantly on to the Police to do something & making a real nuisance of myself, maybe it will be sorted but it depends on how your local force deals with this kind of thing.

The thing a lot of people don't realise is that the police/court are no real deterrent to some of these muppets! The only thing they respect is "their law" &, unfortunately, that usually involves violence... as I know to my cost!

A conviction for assualt & ABH stays with you for life but sometimes it's worth it ;)

Not that I would ever advocate taking the law into your own hands!!!

Even if they are unemployed scvm on benefits, taking them to court will make money come out of their benefits. Ok so they'll only miss out on the odd can of special brew, smoke of weed, and packet of benson and hedges for however many years, but hopefully it will send a message.

No one can have anything nice any more due to idiots loose in the country who have no respect for anyone else's property. Sadly all I can say is if the expense of continually repairing it is an issue either you need a garage to store it, an alarm that effectively protects it, CCTV, or to sell up and buy a crap one. It is possible to have an alarm that only sends a text message to your mobile so the kids don't get all excited about setting the noises off, and they'll wonder how you knew they were doing something to it when you come chasing them with a baseball bat.
  • which way are they coming from, i had this problem years ago

they were kicking the mirror on the mirror side which caused it to smash and fly off

if i parked my car the other way, when the yobs walked back from town and kicked the back of the wing mirror, it folded in and didnt cause it to fly off

i also applied something slippery on the back of the mirror to help their foot slip off

Exactly. Or alternatively they don't turn up at court, are too stupid to understand court papers, lose by default and you get to send the court bailiff round to take away that lovely HDTV they have on the wall.

hewhoisnot - a neighbour of my grandmother had something similar to that. She lived opposite my grandmother and had her windscreen smashed in twice by drunks. If she parked it on the other side of the road it didn't happen.
