What is needed in this country is some government run database that everyone can post opinions to. That way, everyone can see the bad companies by simply looking them up and then avoiding them, thereby choking them of custom and putting them out of business.

Obviously it would need some kind of proof of who was posting so that competitors couldn't trash other companies, which they would otherwise do for sure. A simple password + IP address would suffice for most cases (yes I know its easy to get around for anyone remotely knowledgable about such things, but the fact is most people aren't).

Some of the reviews on Trustpilot are verified with a number for each sale, but I think the business has to pay for this. I suppose it encourages positive feedback a bit like eBay. I would be more inclined to trust verified reviews and companies who use them.

I'm sorry if I have broken some sort of rule here. I was just trying to bring up an issue I thought was important and thought this previous thread was relevant as it involved problems with the same company. If that's not allowed could someone please explain this and I'll stop replying to the thread. The penny has now dropped so I understand why. I am obviously completely stupid and naive for not realising how doing this couldn't be misconstrued so I deserve what I get and have been judged by all!
  • Don't be disheartened by the odd member who just wants to moan at other people's contributions.

As I see it, you have done us all a favour by pointing out that Cube Computers are still operating as badly.

I am sorry to hear that you have had problems with them as well. Consumer Direct are aware of their refusal to abide by their own terms and conditions, as well as consumer law. (I reported them and so did other members of this forum who got in touch with me).

It is annoying that a company like this is still allowed to trade in such a manner.

To add to this and to the original poster, we are going through the very same thing, 4 missed delivery dates and time of work, no apology for this, finally got the PC, it didn't work, it was in a terrible state, parts not connected.

Got in touch with them asked them to collect and repair and there response was no need they can advise how to do it over the phone, we didn't even get over the first hurdle before the guy became clueless, asked again to collect, he went away, came back to the phone and said we are not prepared to do that, I pointed out they have to do that and stand by the "Sales of goods act" "The distance selling law" and there so called bronze warranty, he said no we don't and put the phone down, I called back and found the staff where consummate professionals in laid back, calm, we can take any flack mentality.

I went balmy as is my right in the face of a pending ripping of, told them to collect it, they said "No", told them to refund "No" again pointed out my rights and the law, they didn't care, they then pointed out it was a bespoke system, they can get around the distance selling law because they set there website up for the customer to make selections and thus you then have a so called "bespoke system" and is outside that law, of course this is rubbish.

Had the complete system looked at by a well known high street PC company, there was so many things wrong with it it doesn't bare thinking about, not least the parts I had chosen to upgrade, thus making it bespoke, where of a lesser specification, than that I had paid for.

Got back in touch with Cube, spoke to a Helen there, by which time I had registered it with the OFT, who advised me because I had paid by card get it back of the card, put that into motion and then as mentioned contacted Cube customer services, who quite calmly and gleefully informed me " we will defend it and get the money back of the card, we've don't it before" "you won't get your refund".

In response to the comment made about how companies like this should in some way be tagged, you only have to look across the net as I have done, (not something in a million years I would normally bother with) to see there is a picture or a history building with this outfit, there seems a lot of very disappointed people out there.

Its just a matter of time before this lot appear on something like Watchdog or "Don't get done get Dome", and that will be curtains for them.

    ps...................Still many hundreds down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is really helpful, and only goes to point out yet further how wrong this retailer is, they even go down the road of misinterpreting or manipulating the law or both.

    Thanks.

So don't comment on "moderator" things then. This guy has pointed out a company who totally suck by the sounds of it and as members we all thank them for informing us. I wasn't around on here back when it was initially posted so for people like me, its helpful.
  • May I add to the Cube PC saga? I ordered a desktop, after watching their excellent adverts for a couple of years, to my amended specification in Feb 2009, on 12 months credit, despite awful warnings from others who had missed repayment deadlines. I then called back to confirm that it was in order for me to fit a TV card myself. The PC arrived, with 64 bit Win XP Pro, in lieu of the 32 bit I thought I would get. It all worked, barring the TV which was tricky to get working - so what's new?!
Later I found I got the BSOD more frequently, which started to cost me for rectification by my local Windows fixer. I repaid the debt in a year with no problems.
The PC has continued to be troublesome and I have finally downgraded it to basic Win XP and use it just for TV and back up internet. In this condition it is a shadow of it's original self and sadly was not a good buy. So I'm disappointed, but not as angry as some of the correspondents above. Moral? Only buy from a proven, trusted producer. Thanks for reading this.
