10-year anniversary at work - an appropriate gift?

Perhaps a pen, engraved with a voucher to take himself/herself and one other for a meal somewhere nice.
Along with that, an extra day/evening off of there choice to use the meal voucher and also a card to congratulate them0 -
Do not give them a tie pin, we get them for 5, 10 and 15 years service, they have some sort of stone in them but hardly anybody ever uses them, for 20 we get a rolex, how about getting them a watch, maybe give them a price limit and let them choose, better than buying them something they do not want, you could also get it engraved for cheap. How much you looking to spend? i do think 10 years is a substantial milestone, i have 4 months to go until the same, looking forward to my tie pin again.0

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
One company I know of allows the employee to buy a gift costing £10 per year of service (so £100 here) for significant anniversaries. That way the employee gets a gift that they really want or need.
Another gives a certificate!
My old company gave a decanter to the men and rose bowl to the women.
You probably know your employee better than us so you may be able to pick something special to them. For example most people that know me well would be looking along the reference book or bling jewellery route, failing that dinner in a nicer restaurant or an overnight/weekend stay somewhere.
An overnight stay doesn't have to be expensive, we just sent my sister & BIL away for £89 DBB in a four poster room at a Best Western Hotel. We were concerned it was so cheap but they had a great time.
ETA My company adds an extra days holiday allowance at 5 & 10 years until you are on a maximum of 28 days.:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
One company I used to work for offered 20 days holidays as standard, after 5 years you got an extra day per year up to 30 days, at 20 years just for that one year you got an extra 10 days paid leave. I worked for another company that offered £10 per year gift on significant anniversaries 5 years 10 years etc, they also paid for either a team night out or a meal for the recipient and family up to £150...
Not stayed in my last two jobs long enough to find out if they offer anniversary gifts ...0 -

We get: 2 year anniversary : an umbrella or pen with corporate logos. We get a new ID card in a different colour.
5 years - big heavy marble clock, an expenses lunch (up to 35 quid). New ID card again
7 years - this one is good - we get a months sabbatical leave. 1 week must be doing charity work
There's also gifts/new ID badges at 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 years service (company is now 31 years old)
For 10 years.. a good dinner out would be nice - we get Night on the town awards for exceptional performance (i've won 2 this year, woo!) and you get cash towards a big night out. 75 to 300 quid.
So, how about 150 quid towards a nice big night out for them and their partner.
I guess the reward needs to be in proportion to other forms of recognition & pay0 -
I would for the expensive pen and extra annual leave!0
